King’s College London is looking for an ambitious and experienced individual to lead it’s King’s Sierra Leone Partnership programme (which includes active grants ~£1.2m), and be based in Sierra Leone.This is a fantastic opportunity to lead an innovative and impactful health systems strengthening programme, rooted in strong partnerships with individuals and organisations.

This will involve managing a team of international and national staff and volunteers to deliver a programme of health system strengthening projects in conjunction with our key partners in Sierra Leone: the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex at Connaught Hospital, the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

This role will oversee King’s Sierra Leone Partnership’s clinical, educational, policy and research activities, which are underpinned by principles of working in partnership and of capacity building and mentoring of local partners. A successful candidate should have the technical knowledge to strategically direct the programme and to work closely with the senior leadership of key partners to provide advice, and to provide project advice and direction to the team.

The post holder will work in conjunction with Centre staff based in London, other King’s Global Health Partnerships, the wider School and other King’s College London academic global health colleagues and clinical colleagues across KHP Partner Trusts, to create a successful and sustainable programme of work.

This will require strong relationship management skills, an inclusive and forward-looking approach to organisational development and a keen understanding of programme management. The Country Director will equally need to manage relationships with a wide variety of actors both in Sierra Leone including donors, local partners, Trustees, and international organisations.

Specific responsibilities and objectives of the job:

 Representing KCL and delivery of the King’s Global Health Partnerships 10-year strategy in Sierra Leone

 Strategic leadership and direction for the partnership in conjunction with key Sierra Leone and UKbased colleagues

 Manage relationships with strategic partners and other key stakeholders

 Oversee implementation of the programme collaboratively with project leads and implementation partners in country

 Line manage the Country Management Team to deliver KSLP’s portfolio of projects

 Support the personal and professional development of staff and volunteers working within the KSLP programme

 Identify grant and project opportunities and work with relevant staff to successfully develop and secure these

 Collaborate with other KGHP programmes in Somaliland, Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo, contributing to a strengthened portfolio of health partnerships. This includes spending some time working in London.

 Provide updates on KSLP activity to the cross-Partnership team and the KGHP Strategic Delivery Board

 Oversee recruitment of volunteers for the in-country team

 Represent KCL in the media and at events and meetings in Sierra Leone
