The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of 31.12.2027. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Antananarivo, Madagascar (MG).
As Country Director, you will lead Welthungerhilfe’s operations in Madagascar, driving an impact-oriented country programme that delivers sustainable results and contributes to our global mission of achieving Zero Hunger. You will represent Welthungerhilfe at the highest levels, build strategic partnerships, secure funding for programme growth, and ensure excellence in programme quality, financial stewardship, and operational management. By providing inspiring leadership to a diverse team, you will foster a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning, while ensuring the safety and security of our people and operations. As a member of Welthungerhilfe’s Global Management Team, you will also contribute to shaping the organization’s strategic direction and strengthening its global impact.
Your responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the strategic development, implementation and management of Welthungerhilfe’s country programme.
- Represent Welthungerhilfe and coordinate programme strategies and activities with government authorities, local decision-makers, partner organizations, donors and other humanitarian and development actors.
- Lead the development of country strategies, programme concepts, project proposals and planning documents for new and follow-on projects.
- Identify, establish and strengthen strategic partnerships, developing joint initiatives and programme opportunities.
- Oversee the recruitment, development and retention of qualified national staff and experts.
- Provide leadership, guidance and performance management to national and international staff, fostering a high-performing, accountable and inclusive team culture.
- Ensure the effective planning and management of financial, human and material resources, including timely and high-quality reporting to the Regional Directorate and donors.
- Ensure effective communication, knowledge sharing and transparency regarding Welthungerhilfe’s programme activities and impact within the country.
Your profile
- University degree, preferably a Master’s degree, in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in international development and/or humanitarian cooperation.
- 7–9 years of management experience with strong leadership, emotional intelligence and intercultural competence.
- Experience in programme management, partnership development and donor-funded projects.
- Strong organizational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- You recognize the growing value of data within organizations and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Readiness to receive the necessary vaccinations for travel to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries.
- Professional proficiency in French and English.
