Plan International embarked on an ambitious and exciting strategic change initiative to make the organization more transparent, legitimate, and agile. Strengthening our People and Culture processes is one of the key enablers in attaining our strategic goals.

Purpose

The Country People and Culture Manager will:

  • Understand, influence, and Interpret the Country Strategy and Plan International Inc (PII) P&C’s Strategic Plan and priorities to develop and implement Country Office P&C strategic and operational plans to enhance the Country Office’s performance through our people.
  • Partner with the Country Leadership Team (CLT) to nurture an agile organisational culture in the CO, underpinned by our values and feminist principles.
  • Lead and manage the P&C function in the Country Office (CO) focusing on responsive and efficient operations and targeted excellence.
  • Build CO P&C capacity and capability to deliver CO strategic and operational plans, through competency assessments, learning and development, performance and talent management, workforce planning, etc.

Impact of this role is significant within the country and the region and could have some impact PII-wide. The role operates in scope of, and aligned to:

  • Country Office Strategy
  • PII P&C Strategy and Strategic Plan
  • Labour Law, PII policies and procedures and industry best practices
  • International assignee hosting
  • CO Complexity related context: (customise as required: Low, Medium, High)
  • Membership in relevant networks in the country with other INGO’s and/or private sector

Plan International is registered in Egypt and started operations in in country in 1981. With close to 190 staff, Plan is one of the larger INGOs in the country. Plan International in Egypt has integrated programme – development and humanitarian.

Other dimensions of the role are as follows:

  • Line management and budget management of the P&C department
  • Management of sensitive and confidential information
  • Membership in relevant networks: PII Regional and Global P&C other professional networks

Type of Role: One year fixed term contract

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live. The charity also has 21 national organisations who have been given the responsibility to oversee the raising of funds and awareness in their individual countries.

The organisation puts an emphasis on communities working together in order to address the needs of children around the world. The NGO focuses on child participation, education, economic security, emergencies, health, protection, sexual health (including HIV), and water and sanitation. It provides training in disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and has worked on relief efforts in countries including Haiti, Colombia and Japan.

Plan International also sponsors the Because I Am a Girl campaign, which has published many stories focusing on the struggle of young women in the developing world.

Plan International was founded during the Spanish Civil War by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and aid worker Eric Muggeridge. When they witnessed the conflict change the lives of children, they founded ‘Foster Parents Plan for Children in Spain’, which would later change its name to Plan International. Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
