The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is a World Bank Group member, and the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries. IFC’s mission is to advance economic development by encouraging the growth of private enterprise in developing countries. The organization aims to reduce poverty and improve people’s lives by fostering sustainable private-sector investment.

Context

IFC seeks to appoint a UN Youth Volunteer as a Country Program Analyst to support the Country Management Unit by conducting in-depth research. The role aims to identify growth opportunities in priority sectors and support IFC industry teams and management in monitoring and growing IFC’s portfolio in South Africa.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Country Officer, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Research and Analysis:

  • Provide support in conducting in-depth research to identify opportunities in priority sectors where IFC can grow;
  • Provide support with documenting potential impact stories based on research findings to illustrate the benefits and outcomes of IFC’s involvement;
  • Supported mapping key sectors, events, and opportunities to position and expand IFC’s footprint in new growth areas.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly updates and briefs on the country program, including investment, advisory services, and country economics (e.g., Country Private Sector Diagnostics – CPSDs);
  • Assist in the development of detailed presentations on strategic topics or for meetings where IFC will engage, ensuring that all relevant information is clearly communicated;
  • Prepare talking points and background research to prepare senior management for participation in key high-level events.

Pretoria is located in the northern part of Gauteng Province in South Africa. It is one of the country’s two capital cities serving as the executive (administrative) and de facto national capital. It offers excellent living conditions and various types of world-class facilities. Housing is readily available, and rents can be negotiated. Infrastructure, internet connectivity, roads, utilities, and telecommunications are of a high standard. Airbnb and Uber are in common use. The other city is Cape Town, the legislative capital. Pretoria is classified as an A duty station, and South Africa is in security phase 1. Like in other big cities with significant crime rates, caution must be exercised always.
