About the Job

The Data Administrator supports the protection office in its data management processes. S/he ensures accuracy, integrity and quality of data collected and updated in the system. The job holder ensures adherence to ICRC existing procedures and frameworks whilst respecting data protection policies.

This is a national/resident position based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely circulation of information related to tracing activities between the delegations and sites responsible for action.
  • Updates the ICRC data base following receipt of tracing cases.
  • Captures data in the databases and ensures that all closed cases are updated accordingly in the system
  • Ensures conformity to the set procedures and adherence to quality standards during the data entry for all the Restoring Family Links (RFL) cases
  • Ensures regular data quality control as defined in the Data Control procedures.
  • Ensures compliance of data protection procedures established for treatment of individual data.
  • Ensures proper record management and compliance with data entry procedures
  • Supports in oral interpretation from Somali to English, and English to Somali on need be basis
  • Conducts data analysis and generates reports to support in data driven decision-making within the department.

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, or equivalent qualification in a related field of study
  • 2 years’ experience as a Data Administrator in a busy environment
  • Experience in data management and familiar with various databases/software
  • Knowledgeable of the Data Protection Policy
  • Good command of English and Somali, both Written and spoken
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian institution based in Geneva, Switzerland and a three-time Nobel Prize Laureate. State parties (signatories) to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977 (Protocol I, Protocol II) and 2005 have given the ICRC a mandate to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts. Such victims include war wounded, prisoners, refugees, civilians, and other non-combatants.

The ICRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement along with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and 190 National Societies. It is the oldest and most honoured organization within the Movement and one of the most widely recognized organizations in the world, having won three Nobel Peace Prizes in 1917, 1944, and 1963.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Since its creation in 1863, the ICRC's sole objective has been to ensure protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and strife. It does so through its direct action around the world, as well as by encouraging the development of international humanitarian law (IHL) and promoting respect for it by governments and all weapon bearers. Its story is about the development of humanitarian action, the Geneva Conventions and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
