Purpose of the position:

Support all field operations by ensuring proper usage, regular maintenance and repairs of all assigned vehicles and motor bikes for high performance and to undertake driving assignments within and outside the project areas as required

Major Responsibilities:

Carry out routine maintenance of all project vehicles and motorbikes

Drive project staff, partners and visitors to, from and within the project as and when required

Maintain log books and report regularly to Project Coordinator on the performance of all vehicles and motorbikes in the project

Diagnose faults and carry out repairs where applicable and advice Project Coordinator and staff on the repairs of vehicles and motorbikes

Assist in the recovery of broken down vehicles

Give technical assistance and coordinate the procurement of genuine vehicle parts for maintenance and repairs

Give technical guidance to other vehicle users to polish driving skills and unsure the safe use of the vehicles

Ensure that project vehicles are clean and have all the requisite safety gargets such as fire extinguishers, dusters, basic tools and equipment and also valid road worthy certificates and insurance.

Other Competencies/Attributes:

Community entry and mobilization skills

Basic planning and organizational skills

Basic computer skills

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

Motor Mechanic Certificate (MVM) + 2 years relevant experience or Motor Vehicle Technician (MVT) 1/2 + at least 2 years relevant experience.

Professional drivers license for at least 2 years, preferably experience with a 4 wheel drive.

Technical Skills & Abilities:

To be able to undertake general servicing of vehicles and diagnose faults, preferably on diesel engines
