JOB SUMMARY:

The driver will be responsible for providing road transportation services for Lifewater International projects and in-country office staff and authorized guests by (i) safely driving vehicles and (ii) ensuring excellent condition of the vehicle. S/he will also assist in procurement, transporting of goods and delivering and receiving messages to and from Lifewater International projects and in-country office.

 KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Drives any vehicle assigned in a safe and professional manner
  • Regularly inspects vehicle for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and report on the condition of vehicle at the end of each trip
  • Informs staff about the precautions that they should take before and during the trip and gives special attention to travelers’ safety and security
  • Keeps the assigned vehicles clean, fueled and mechanically sound
  • Completes the vehicle log book accurately and submits the log book for inspection on a regular basis to the supervisor
  • Operates the vehicle in accordance with national and local driving laws at all times
  • Informs his/her supervisor of all vehicle movements when leaving the site and ensures that all vehicle movements are recorded on the formats prepared for vehicle movements
  • Responsible for all tools, medical kits and any other equipment supplied with the vehicle and keeping these tools from damage or misuse
  • Responsible for the safe delivery of any consignments assigned to the vehicle
  • Assists travelers with loading, unloading, packing and transferring any material as requested
  • Reports to the supervisor of regular services, insurance renewals. any vehicle defects and accidents timely
  • Avails herself/himself on time at the work station and whenever requested to do so
  • Strict adherence to the Lifewater International’s vehicle policies and procedures

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • One-year contract with possibility of extension and probation period of 45 working days.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • High school completer with at least one year of vocational education
  • Valid driving license of grade 3 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in international NGO
  • Excellent practical driving experience on difficult roads and cities
  • Humble and integral personality
  • Commitment to the core values of Lifewater International
  • Ability to communicate in the English and Amharic languages; additional local languages advantage
