JOB OVERVIEW/SUMMARY

The Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of IRC staff and materials; care and maintenance of IRC vehicles and their accessories.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Inspect and record the condition of the vehicle on a daily basis; prepare weekly maintenance checklist.

· Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of IRC vehicles (complete service request forms and maintain service maintenance records); report to SCM any mechanical problems.

· Ensure vehicle is insured and all legal documents are in order at all times; inform SCM three weeks in advance of any renewals due (i.e. insurance, road license, etc.).

· Conduct daily assessments of road conditions and security situation.

· Drive IRC program staff in a safe and courteous manner to field sites across the country.

· Deliver mail/messages as directed.

· Operate HF and VHF mobile radio equipment.

· Maintain cleanliness of interior/exterior of vehicle.

· Give accurate reconciliation within the given period.

· Obey IRC vehicle policy and operating procedures at all times (use of logbook, no drinking and driving, signing out vehicle on vehicle registry and so on).

· Assist programs or SCV in loading cargo for the field.

Confidentiality:

· Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.

Note: – The role of the Driver cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein. The success of the IRC’s humanitarian mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed accordingly. Therefore, S/he will be required to work on all unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain flexible to perform any other duties, as and when required.

*REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

· Minimum Ordinary Level Certificate; A- Level Certificate is an added advantage; Valid driver’s license with classes “A, B & DL”

Experience:

· Minimum of two (2) years’ driving experience preferably with NGOs.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to pass the IRC driving test.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.
  • Flexible and able to work in a dynamic and diverse environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft word and Microsoft excel skills.
  • Willingness to travel to ‘insecure areas within the constraints of IRC Uganda’s security policy

Language Skills:

· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. *

Since October 2012, the IRC has been responding to humanitarian needs of Nigerians. The IRC initially intervened in response to floods that affected over 7 million people across the country, destroying harvest and damaging homes. The IRC is currently implementing programs in Health, Protection, WASH, Nutrition, Food Security, and Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) in Adamawa and Borno States in North-Eastern Nigeria.

The IRC is dedicated to making women and adolescent girls healthier from the earliest phase of acute crises (a target group most vulnerable during crisis) and implements evidence-based reproductive health interventions in line with the SPHERE-standard Minimum Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health in Crises (MISP). The goal is to ensure that the IRC’s health responses in emergencies include the core package of Reproductive Health (RH) services in its interventions.

The IRC’s Reproductive Health (RH) program is currently implementing (MISP) for RH in 4 health care centers in MMC and Jere LGAs and 1 IDP camp clinic. In addition the program is starting up an emergency mobile programming outside of these areas of Maiduguri in coordination with the WPE team. The focus of this program is to provide quality comprehensive RH and WPE services to conflict-affected women and girls in a timely manner. In addition to the mobile program, the WPE and RH joint mobile teams will be in charge of rapid assessments and rapid response. The mobile teams will be focused in the newly opened LGAs and emergency areas previously inaccessible due to conflict and insecurity. These teams will provide life-saving services to populations outside of Maiduguri, who have not had access to services in approximately 3 years.
