COOPI is looking for a Regional Coordinator in Eastern Africa for its office in Nairobi

Regional Coordinator is responsible for all the activities of the Regional Coordination from a strategic management point of view, economic results and resources deployed in the area, both human and otherwise. Further, the collaborator represents the Organization in the relevant countries in dealings with Institutions, donors, Organizations and counterparts and deals with the strategy of the area of its competence and future activities in the area. The employee identifies, together with the Country Coordinators, project activities with the respective donors. Eventually, the person ensures in the countries of responsibility, in coordination with the Operations and Processes Manager, the application and control of the Organization’s procedures and internal regulations and compliance with the procedures specified by the donors.

Responsibilities

Institutional relationships

  • Develops and promotes relations with the Country Coordinators of the various institutions and donors present in the geographical area of responsibility and with international NGOs, in coordination with the CEO;

Strategy and Planning

  • Coordinates and drafts the Strategic Planning and Programming Document for the area of reference;

Administrative and financial management

  • Responsible, in liaison with other Coopi staff, for both forecast and actual budget analyses and financial and economic trends in the countries under his/her responsibility;
  • Makes sure that projects comply with Coopi procedures and the rules specified by the Funders, together with the organizational units under his/her responsibility and the Country Coordinators;

Institutional communication and Fundraising

  • In coordination with the offices of competence of headquarters, coordinates the visibility and communication activities of the organization in the geographical area of its competence;
  • Any other tasks necessary for the successful and timely implementation of the project, in coordination with the CEO.

Requirements

Essentials

  • University degree, or other relevant academic backgrounds with a particular focus on International Relations, Cooperation and Development, Humanitarian Management and Emergency;
  • At least 10 years of working experience, as Head of Mission / Coordinator and Programs manager;
  • Previous experience in HR Management;
  • Excellent knowledge and use of the English and Italian languages, both written and spoken;
  • Previous experiences in project writing and management;
  • Good report writing skills;
  • Good administrative skills.

Soft skills

  • Proactive attitude in terms of planning and coordination with different bodies, Institutions and local authorities;
  • Excellent leadership skills, aimed at managing and motivating a multicultural team;
  • Positive ability to bear stressful and complicated situations;
  • Diplomatic and confidentiality skills;
  • Target oriented and problem solving aptitude;
  • Stress management.

Assets

  • Previous experience in COOPI overseas;
  • Previous experience in Eastern Africa Countries.

We are an independent Italian NGO founded in Milan by Father Vincenzo Barbieri on April 15 1965.

For 50 years we have been dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and to supporting populations affected by wars, socio-economic crises or natural disasters in their path to recovery and sustainable development, by making use of the professionalism of local and international operators, and through our partnerships with public and private bodies and civil society organizations.

Today we are present in 24 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, with 150 humanitarian projects reaching almost 2,400,000 people. Since 2006 we have been providing food, education, health and protection to thousands of children in 8 countries through our child sponsorship programs.

Since 1965 we have helped 100 million people, through 1,600 projects in 63 countries, employing 4,500 expatriate and 55,000 local operators.

COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian Non-governmental Organization for Cooperation and Development, founded by Father Vincenzo Barbieri in 1965. Over the last 50 years COOPI has aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and supporting population affected by wars, socio-economic crisis or disasters in order to encourage resilience and sustainable development. COOPI is currently involved in 24 countries in Africa, Middle East Latin America and Caribbean with 150 humanitarian projects that reach nearly 2 million and 400 thousand people.

It stands at the international level for: - the care of maternal and child malnutrition; - food security interventions; - protection of war victims (women, girls subjected to abuses by armed groups and child soldiers); - the promotion of the rights of indigenous peoples; - the introduction of renewable energy; - disaster risk reduction.

Every project aims to protect women, children and environment. The financial statement is certified by an audit company. 2014 final budget is more than € 30 million and 600 thousand, 93% of which was used for interventions in the Southern World and 7% to fund the Organization. The funds come mainly from institutional donors, above all from the European Commission. Since 2006 it has also been involved in the Child Sponsorship Programme in 8 countries, providing food, education, health and protection to 2,712 children. COOPI employs 125 expatriates and 3,800 local operators. In Italy it employs 50 employees, 15 co-workers and 653 volunteers. From 1965 to 2015, COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale has helped 100 million people in 63 Countries, by employing 55,000 local workers in 1,600 projects.
