Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.
Why we need you?
The DRA Project/Ethiopia Tigray Joint response focuses on responding and rehabilitating essential services like water and sanitation, health and nutrition to the IDP population in Tigray region (Mekelle Zone) , especially those with intersecting vulnerabilities such as children, pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and those living with a disability, who are the most vulnerable as they experience additional barriers to access essential service.
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for leading the planning (including budgeting), implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project activities, in accordance with the organisation’s policies, strategies, and available resources.

Your role….
As a Project Coordinator for DRA Project, you will be in charge of the following:
- Represent the organization’s emergency response program at zonal level and ensure a positive collaboration and working relationship with pertinent government offices and a good public image of the organization.
- Actively participates and coordinates in zonal level drought emergency response clusters/coordination meeting with NGOs, UN agencies and government offices and update the proceedings to national office and field officers.
- Responsible for the overall planning and implementation of emergency response activities, closely monitor, evaluate report their development and flag potential issues on time.
- Provide technical support for field officers in planning and implementation of the program
- Support the field officers in community mobilization and management
- Conduct regular Bi-weekly and monthly meeting with field staff and share the minute to the National Office and Mekelle
- Ensure all HR, logistic, and financial matters of the field office are communicated to national office
- Conduct situation assessment, develop concept note and share to the national office
- Lead and participate on pre and post multi-agency crop assessments
- Ensure vulnerable children and poor women inclusion in all aspects of program activities
- Assist and facilitate the field officers in conducting child protection, early warning early action and disaster preparedness training’s to the community
- Support the field officers in documenting the project best practices
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and submit to the national emergency response coordinator, Identified government offices
- Ensure adherence to SOS CV policies such as the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Standards and others as well as the minimum standards of humanitarian relief (ICRC Code of Conduct, Sphere, HAP).
- Responsible for Gathering zonal level security information from zonal security office and keep on updating the field staff

The must haves
Education:
- MA/BA degree in Disaster risk Management or Development Studies, Social Sciences, agricultural economics, natural resource management or equivalent working experience
- Experience or education in one of the following fields is an asset:, child protection in emergencies, health, nutrition, WASH, Livelihood diversification, food security
Experience :
- Minimum 4 years of experience in leading and coordinating humanitarian aid and/or development work in multi-cluster INGOs, LNGO
- Practical experience and knowledge of emergency project management including emergency needs assessment, project design, development and implementation
- Good understanding of humanitarian issues and sympathy with the aims and objectives of the organization; commitment to humanitarian principles and the Red Cross and INGO’s code of conduct
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
- Ability to cope with stress; patience and flexibility
- Experience with establishing strong and effective working relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds, cultures and experience
- Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues in course of work
- Local knowledge in terms of its culture, economic and social trends is an asset
- Basic proficiency in the use of MS Office, Email and other computer applications
- Flexible, adaptable and able to work effectively in a variety of settings and in a cross-cultural situation and be knowledgeable of the services available in the community.

- Fluency in the language(s) spoken in target communities
