Position Summary

SoCha is recruiting Enumerators (Interviewers) to support an establishment-level (firm) survey in Mauritius. These interviewers will be responsible for visiting selected establishments, securing respondent participation, conducting structured interviews with selected respondents, and ensuring that all information collected is complete, accurate, and handled confidentially.

This role is best suited to candidates with prior survey or fieldwork experience, strong communication skills, and the confidence to engage credibly and professionally with firm owners, managers, and other senior business representatives. Candidates should be comfortable conducting interviews in professional settings and following standardized survey protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit selected establishments and support their participation in the survey.
  • Conduct face-to-face interviews with selected respondents and, where applicable, support alternative approved interview modes (e.g., video interviews).
  • Administer the survey questionnaire as trained, ensuring adherence to survey protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of responses during the interview process, including clarifying responses with respondents where needed.
  • Record responses accurately using the designated digital data collection system (CAPI).
  • Submit completed interviews to the Field Supervisor and respond to feedback or required corrections in a timely manner.
  • Support verification of contact details, revisits, appointment scheduling, and follow-up interviews, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and status updates for assigned establishments, including contact attempts and interview outcomes.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality and privacy of collected information at all times.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or degree in social sciences, economics, business, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in surveys, interviews, field data collection, or research support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with business respondents.
  • Comfortable conducting interviews in professional settings with firm owners, managers, and other senior firm representatives.
  • Able to travel locally as required for fieldwork.
  • Prior experience with World Bank, UN, or other donor-funded survey or research assignments is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English, French, and Creole.
  • Good knowledge of the private sector in Seychelles.
  • Comfortable using tablets and digital survey tools (CAPI).
  • Polite, professional, and persistent in engaging respondents.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
  • Able to follow instructions and survey protocols closely.
  • Reliable and organized in managing appointments, revisits, and assigned workload.
