Orbis International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works in developing countries to save sight worldwide. JOB SUMMARY

The Field Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of eliminating blinding trachoma, Cataract and refractive error services of the project in South Omo Zone

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Orbis International Ethiopia Project Manager, the Field Coordinator will have the following specific duties and responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the trained Integrated Eye Care Workers (IECWs), HEWs and HDAs as well as the health institutions, Woreda Health Offices and Zonal Health Department; participates to plan, implement, monitor quality of services such as TT surgery, and different trainings and monitor the SAFE strategy, Cataract surgery, refractive errors and other eye care services.
  • In collaboration with the trained teachers, Woreda Education Offices and Zonal Education Department; plans and assists the service provider in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of school eye care service.
  • Coordinate and facilitate provision of trainings for HWs, IECWs, HEWs, HDAs, teachers and other relevant bodies that can contribute for blindness prevention.
  • Facilitates the link between the zones, woredas, health facilities and Orbis International-Ethiopia.
  • Provides support to government partners in organizing and coordinating various community mobilization, awareness creation and meetings for the prevention of blindness.
  • Collaborates and assists other stakeholders involved in WASH activities and TT backlog clearance activities carried out in the locations.
  • Collect and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual all project activities reports together with partners and submit to the supervisor.
  • Prepares detail annual activities plans derived from the MY project plan together with partners and submit to the supervisor.
  • Participates in project mid-term and final evaluations as well as the end of project results conference, as requested.
  • Participates in, organizing and supports research activities in and out of project area.
  • Participates on zonal level health, education and finance sectors planning and review meetings being organized by zone departments and if necessary, at woreda level.
  • Follows up the timely and judicious utilization of resources by partners and monitors the timely submission of activity.
  • Handles some petty cashes transferred to the project coordination office accounts and timely settling.
  • Organize and undertake joint supportive supervisions, TT verification/ DQA and comprehensive outreach activities of eye care units in collaboration with stakeholders and share the finding to the supervisor
  • Organize annual and bi-annual review meeting of the project, prepare minute of the meetings and share to office which Orbis hosts.
  • Prepare the yearly procurement plan of the project and follow the timely distribution it to the eye care facilities.
  • Prepare mid-term and term evaluation reports of the project and share to supervisor
  • Coordinate MDA/Zithromax campaign of the project areas and follow the campaign to meet the WHO threshold of success
  • Performs any other activities as may be assigned to her/him by his supervisor.
  • Organize project level eye care data, recordings, and documents for the project use and evaluation of achievements and its process of implementations.

Term of the employment

  • Will be upto the duration of the project which is December 31, 2020 with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Sc in Public Health, Health Science or Diploma in Nursing Degree or other related field of study
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for B.Sc holders and 4 years for diploma graduates.
  • Experience as Ophthalmic Officer or Ophthalmic Nurse is highly considerable.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing, managing, and monitoring “multi partner” health and social sector projects/programs and/or population health research, preferably with experience in project design.
  • Experience in blindness prevention, trachoma, and/or preventive ophthalmology is mandatory.
  • Training on Project Design and Program Development
  • Training on Trachoma and blindness prevention

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Ability to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and foster an open trusting work environment.
  • Knowledge of local language (at least speaking command) is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-driven and CQI-based environment.
  • Accepts accountability for work promised.
  • Supports a customer-centered approach to programs, services, and systems
