Work Context

Cesvi’s activity in South Africa supports the most vulnerable population groups in the province of Western Cape and promotes sustainable development and ecotourism in the province of Limpopo. In Cape Town, the main recipients of assistance are women, children and young people, with particular focus on victims of domestic violence. The core of the activities takes place in the House of Smiles situated in the informal settlement of Philippi. Cesvi operates in collaboration with different partners, institutions and local authorities.
At the House of Smile/Khanyisa Centre in Philippi, Cape Town there is an EU co-funded project: “Right Fora For a Right Change: strengthening public and private spaces to promote children socio-economic rights in Western Cape”.

Job Description

Under direct supervision of the Programme Manager, the Field Officer will be in charge to coordinate, monitor and evaluate project related activities in collaboration with project staff.
A more specific and detailed Job Description will be introduced and shared during the selection phase.

To follow general ToRs:

  • S/he ensures the coordination of project activities in Urban Area and represents Cesvi and the Consortium before public institutions, private bodies, and stakeholders in Philippi, Gugulethu and Nyanga and other areas as assigned by the Programme Manager;
  • S/he ensures the identification of local authorities and private Service Providers in the Child Protection sector within the allocated communities;
  • S/he undertakes MEAL related activities and implements an appropriate monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems for successful delivery and attainment of project goal and objectives;
  • S/he ensures data consolidation and management and quality management;
  • S/he undertakes MEAL related activities and implements an appropriate monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems for successful delivery and attainment of project goal and objectives.

Required Competencies

  • University degree in an area of social science, health, community development or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Social Economic Justice with focus on Human Rights and Child Protection issues in developing countries
  • Experience (1/2 years) in project management
  • Educational background and/or 1 / 2 years’ working experience in M&E and developing M&E plans
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Stress and time management skills;
  • Effective written communications skills;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field sites
  • Fluency in English (both verbal and written)
  • MS Office applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Spread sheets and other Statistical software

Desirable Competencies

  • Knowledge of South Africa
  • Understanding of the cultural and political environment in the community in Philippi, Gugulethu and Nyanga areas
  • Knowledge of EU as an international donor
