The Norwegian Red Cross, in collaboration with IFRC, is establishing a Global Finance Development Reference Centre to strengthen financial management capacity across the Movement. As part of this initiative, we are now seeking experienced colleagues to take on the role of Finance Development Coordinator in Anglophone Africa

Duties and responsibilities

The purpose of the Finance Development Coordinator is to ensure specialized, targeted, deliverable-based assistance to National Societies in Anglophone Africa. This includes both ongoing and upcoming FD projects in the area. Working directly/closely with the National Societies, the mission of the Coordinator will be to support the National Societies in improving their financial management such that they may efficiently implement their humanitarian action and fulfil their humanitarian mandate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures alignment with the FDC Global Service Delivery Model

    Leads and oversee the design and delivery of technical services in full conformity with the FDC global service delivery model, ensuring interventions are results-based, technically sound, and implemented in line with established FDC standards, tools, and methodologies. Actively supports the operationalization, institutionalization, and quality assurance of these standards across supported National Societies.

  • Strengthens Financial Governance and Internal Control Systems

    Drives finance development support grounded in structured due diligence and comprehensive needs assessments, enabling National Societies to enhance accountability, transparency, governance, and risk management. Ensures that improvements in financial systems contribute to stronger internal controls, sustainable compliance, and institutional resilience.

  • Financial Reporting Enhances, Structures, and Efficiency

    Supports National Societies to improve the efficiency, reliability, timeliness, and relevance of financial reporting systems and organizational financial structures. Promotes streamlined processes, clarified roles and responsibilities, and optimized financial workflows aligned with FDC standards and international good practice.

  • Contributes to Global Technical Leadership and Standardization

    Collaborate proactively with FDC technical advisors and global counterparts to shape, refine, and operationalize technical approaches, guidance, and standards in finance development. Contributes field learning, best practices, and innovation to strengthen the global FDC knowledge base and ensure continuous improvement of service offerings

Mission specific responsibility

  • Conduct needs assessments of National societies in line with Global FD Center’s Due Diligence methodology
  • Prepare deliverable-based Plan of actions that are targeted in meeting NS needs.

Who you are

You are a person with in-depth understanding of relevant technical financial standards and have a high degree of competencies in strategic thinking.

We are looking for

Formal competancy

  • CPA/CA/Registered Auditor any accounting designation is a must; however, MBAs are also encouraged to apply.
  • Bachelors degree in Finance & Accounting related fields
  • Members of an international professional accounting body are preferred.

Experience

  • Over 10 years’ experience in Financial Management (Accounting, Budgeting, Grants and Compliance and Treasury).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in developing implementing partner’s strength in financial management.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience of coaching, facilitating, managing and/or supporting staff.
  • Experience of working for a humanitarian aid organisation preferably in a developing/conflict country/context.
  • Good understanding of an ERP system.
  • Strong organizational development background (e.g. change management, HR, leadership, strategy development and implementation).

Collaboration

  • Fosters good relationship and works closely together with the host NS, PNSs, IFRC and ICRC.
  • Work as a team within the region and globally, to assist NS’s in meeting their needs in FD.
  • Liaises, as needed, with Colleagues in the Country, Regional and National Office.
  • Works closely together and participates in technical networks (FD and NSD) with other colleagues within Global FD Centre at global, regional and country level.
  • Helps colleagues to understand and make use of available technical tools and standards.
  • Promotes harmonization across delegations’ structures, as well as at regional and country level with other Network partners, by promoting use of common standards and tools, also contributing to learning events and sharing of best practices.
