Center for the Advancement of Rights and Democracy (CARD), formerly known as Ethiopia Human Rights Project (EHRP) is a board-led, for not-profit organization registered in Ethiopia under the revised Civil Societies Law 1113/2019 with registry number 4307. CARD envisions to see a democratic Ethiopia and has a mission of echoing principles of democracy to make it the rule of game in the country. CARD is a newly establishing institution and is seeking to have finance officer who is interested in democratization, human rights and political participation.

Main Duties

  • Establish international standard financial system for newly establishing organization
  • Decide on financial software use of the organization and make use of it
  • Identify the needed financial vouchers and other necessary documents and help the publication and use of it
  • Prepare daily ledger for projects based on the need of the projects, and ensure expenses are well documented
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannually and annually reports
  • Ensure every expenses have supporting documents
  • Ensure that project budget is being utilized according to the budget plan of the projects
  • Control bank accounts, conduct expense conciliation and manage the overall income of the organization
  • When needed represent the organization in communications related with finance
  • Prepare reports for board members and other organizational leaders about the finance of the organization
  • Prepare financial proposal for new projects
  • Follow up on the financial activity performance of the organization and make recommendations accordingly

Expected Start Date:

  • Immediate/ Urgent after conclusion of contract

Reports to:

  • Programs Director

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience on accounting and finance administration
  • BA degree on accounting and minimum of 3 years’ work experience on project finance preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Well versed on using different accounting software
  • Experience in working on non-governmental organization or project finance
  • Excellent knowledge on international accounting standards and willing to support new organizational setting
  • Willingness to engage in other administrative tasks of the organization
  • Willingness and readiness to work in newly establishing work environment
  • Commitment to work on human rights and democracy related projects
  • Adequate and speedy use of internet, email and other online communications tools
