Farsight Africa Technologies is a subsidiary of Farsight Africa Group that aims to digitally enable and empower last frontier markets by promoting technology adoption in politically vulnerable states and focuses on developing robust software and hardware solutions that address the gaping needs for automation of government services. These include financial management information systems, tax revenue collection and administration, and public utility service provision platforms
The organization is seeking an experienced Full Stack Software Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain end-to-end web and mobile applications. The role will support the delivery of Farsight Africa’s digital solutions for government and private sector clients, working across front-end interfaces, back-end services, databases, and system integrations to deliver secure, scalable, and user-friendly platforms.
Objective:
To design, build, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable full stack applications that automate and improve service delivery for our clients, from requirements gathering through to deployment and post-go-live support, while ensuring high code quality, performance, and alignment with business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain full stack web and mobile applications from concept to production.
- Translate business and user requirements into technical specifications, system architecture, and working software.
- Build responsive, accessible, and intuitive user interfaces using modern front-end frameworks.
- Develop secure and scalable back-end services, RESTful APIs, and business logic.
- Design, implement, and optimize relational and non-relational databases.
- Integrate applications with third-party systems, including payment gateways, SMS/USSD services, ERP, and government platforms.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle: requirement gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards, security best practices, and version control discipline.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide technical training to internal teams and clients.
Front-End Development:
- Develop clean, reusable, and maintainable UI components using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility, mobile responsiveness, and optimal page performance.
- Collaborate with designers to turn wireframes and mock-ups into functional interfaces.
Back-End Development:
- Build server-side applications using technologies such as Node.js, Python (Django/Flask), PHP (Laravel), Java, or .NET.
- Implement authentication, authorization, data validation, and encryption to protect sensitive data.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Develop and execute unit, integration, and system tests to ensure quality deliverables.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects during testing and after deployment.
Deployment and Support:
- Deploy applications to cloud and on-premise environments using CI/CD pipelines.
- Provide post-implementation support and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor system performance and apply updates, patches, and improvements.
Documentation:
- Prepare technical documentation, including system design specifications, API documentation, test plans, and user manuals.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for all features, configurations, and integrations.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with project managers, business analysts, designers, and QA teams to deliver projects on time.
- Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to junior developers.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Academic Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Development/Engineering, or a closely related field (mandatory).
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., cloud, full stack, or security certifications) are an added advantage.
Experience & Expertise:
- Minimum of 5 years of proven, hands-on experience as a Full Stack Software Developer.
- Must have personally developed at least one complete application and be able to present a live demo of it during the interview (mandatory).
- Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one modern front-end framework (React, Angular, or Vue.js).
- Strong back-end experience with at least one of: Node.js, Python, PHP, Java, or C#/.NET.
- Solid experience with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB.
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services.
- Proficiency with Git and familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
- Experience in public sector digitalisation, fintech, or revenue/payment systems is an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Fluency in both English and Somali, written and spoken (mandatory).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in debugging, performance tuning, and writing clean, well-documented code.
- Good understanding of application security and data protection best practices.
