In collaboration with Vitamin Angels and IDE, Helen Keller Intl is implementing the Transforming Lives through Nutrition initiative across 12 countries. The initiative focuses on improving maternal and child health by delivering proven nutrition interventions and strengthening food and health systems, with women and children at the center.

A key component of the Transforming Lives Initiative is the Gender Responsive Health Services Project that comprises of a two- year three country (Cambodia, Kenya, and Senegal) research study.

Position Summary

Helen Keller International is seeking Research Field Enumerators for a two- week short term assignment to support a gender analysis household survey to be conducted in Kilifi County in June 2025. Enumerators will work in Ganze, Magarini, and Kaloleni sub-counties, interviewing mothers or caregivers in households with children under five years. Selected candidates must participate in a one-week mandatory training prior to the data collection week.

Only candidates currently residing in Kilifi County, preferably from Ganze, Kaloleni, or Magarini, will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in the one-week training and another week of full data collection exercise.
  • Clearly explain survey objectives and ensure informed consent is obtained before starting any interview
  • Conduct interviews using electronic data collection tools (e.g., tablets, smartphones) and enter appropriately as assigned by the supervisor and review data entered at the end of the exercise for quality checks with the use of electronic data collection tools (tablets, phones).
  • Ensure adherence to data collection protocols and maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards throughout the assignment.
  • Ensure all necessary survey tools and equipment are available and functional before fieldwork begins (Phones, consent forms, tags, etc)
  • Conduct household interviews in sampled clusters efficiently and report to supervisors daily. Attend and contribute to daily debriefing meetings with the assigned supervisor.
  • Properly store, manage, and return all project equipment and materials at the end of the assignment.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Gender and Development Studies, Community Development, Public Health, Sociology, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field (a Degree is an added advantage).
  • Proven experience in conducting household surveys, preferably in similar settings.
  • Current resident of Kilifi County, with preference given to candidates from Ganze, Kaloleni, or Magarini.
  • Good understanding of the local communities, including cultural sensitivity and respect for local norms.
  • Proficient in using electronic data collection platforms such as SurveyCTO, ODK, or KoboCollect.
  • Excellent communication skills in Kiswahili and the relevant local language(s).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality data collection.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends if required.
  • Commitment to adhere to Helen Keller Intl’s safeguarding policies and ethical standards.

Time commitment:

The position requires a two-week commitment including one-week mandatory training in June 2025

All selected candidates must complete the full training before participating in any data collection activities.
