JOB SUMMARY

The Girl Shine Focal Point will closely work with the GBV Officers, GBV manager, and other protection staff to implement a set of interventions to respond to adolescent girls’ needs in the proposed locations of Somalia. The focal point will closely supervise adolescent girl’s activities through the implementation of the girl shine curriculum. The Girl Shine Focal Point is responsible for leading and overseeing the implementation of Girl Shine, from assessing the needs of girls, selecting girls for the program, building relationships with gatekeepers an caregivers, monitoring activities, and overseeing the implementation of the Girl Shine Caregiver Curriculum (with support from other staff members).

Main Tasks and responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure the quality of activities implemented by the facilitators and share relevant information during staff meetings.
  • The Girl Shine Focal Point is also responsible for collecting data and preparing reports.
  • Identify key trends emerging in the field related to adolescent girls and works closely with staff to address key issues (for example, accessing vulnerable segments of girls, introducing case management, etc.)
  • Work closely with the team to ensure GBV responses are reflective of the needs of girls in particular early marriage and sexual violence.
  • Planning and supervision of adolescent girls support activities in the field, supervising the adolescent and girls support activities to ensure that all planned activities are carried out timely.
  • Mentor and strengthen the capacity of the girl shine facilitators in the daily implantation of girl shine activities including the female focal points peer girls through technical support, ongoing training/learning sessions.
  • Assist in the adaptation of documents, M&E and reporting tools, reference materials for the girl shine curriculum.
  • Ensure the rollout of the girl shine sessions based on the needs of the girls, and their caregivers with reference to the curriculum. In collaboration with the GBV Manager and the GBV Officer, contribute to the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of interventions for the girl shine facilitators and targeted girls.
  • Work closely with the protection team to ensure protection responses are reflective of the needs of girls.
  • Together with the girl shine facilitators, identify gaps and needs within the teams regarding the inclusion of the girl shine intervention.
  • Based on the established criteria, guide the adolescent girls’ assistants through the community focal points to identify and register the beneficiaries for the curriculum.
  • Ensure maximum visibility of International Medical Corps and donor while implementing the project activities.
  • Supervise, support, and guide the field mobile teams, adolescent and girls’ facilitators in the field site to ensure project objectives are met, to improve program quality, cultural appropriateness and adhere organizational policies and procedures, donor requirements and host government guidelines.
  • Collect progress updates for the field team, prepare biweekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on time and submit them to the line manager.
  • Organize and facilitate project-related training.
  • Work with teams and communities to develop appropriate prevention and awareness raising in the targeted provinces.
  • Consider security implications of all program activities and review all new initiatives with national staff and community leaders.
  • Ensure Monitoring and Evaluation tools are completed with accurate data input and reports.
  • With the collaboration of the GBV Officer, girl shine facilitators to be able to engage with parents (or guardians/gatekeepers) in the communities the IMC works.
  • Draft and submit progress reports on adolescent girls’ shine activities
  • Supervise and provide ongoing support to activities’ facilitators
  • Collaborate with proactive members to build their capacities in planning, organizing, delivering activities.
  • Attend field-level coordination mechanisms, where relevant.
  • Coordinate activities and initiatives with other women’s forum/networks/platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies.
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program and organization, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding and PSEA policies

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Typically, Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education, Community development or other relevant field of study
  • Typically, 2-3 years’ working experience in protection, and community with women, and adolescent girls, including facilitating training and/or activities targeting adolescent girls
  • Ability to train, mentor and support other staff in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner
  • Understanding and knowledge with IASC Guidelines on GBV and care for GBV survivors
  • Knowledge of international standards and best practices related to GBV prevention and response.
  • Knowledge of Somali culture, society, and language.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
