Global Data Analyst (Fixed-Term) 22 views0 applications

About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa’s farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. This is all made possible by our team of 9,000+ full-time staff, drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. To learn more, please see our Why Work Here blog post.

About the Role

The Global Data Analyst will use large, diverse, cross-country datasets to build foundational data products that enable better decision-making across the organization. This role will focus on creating high-quality, self-service BI dashboards and reports that are trusted, scalable, and widely used — in service of our mission: bigger harvests, healthier families, and richer soil for smallholder farmers.

Responsibilities

Build Foundational, Self-Service BI Data Products

  • Design, build, and maintain high-impact, organization-wide dashboards (“tentpole dashboards”) that enable self-service analytics across functions.
  • Ensure dashboards and reports are accurate, well-documented, and built for long-term sustainability.
  • Monitor adoption and continuously improve usability and relevance.

This role is less focused on one-off data projects and more focused on building durable tools that people consistently use and trust.

Own Analytical Domains and Partner with Data Engineering

  • Serve as the primary analyst for specific data domains (e.g. Finance, People, Supply Chain, etc.).
  • Deeply understand business processes and logic within those domains.
  • Own the full delivery of dashboards and data analytics products: make prioritization decisions, understand user needs, wireframe and design outputs, own delivery and iteration.
  • Partner closely with Data Engineers to ensure business rules are embedded in the warehouse and semantic layer.
  • Clearly communicate data limitations and ensure metric consistency.

The goal is to ensure logic lives in the data model — not scattered across dashboards.

Strengthen Analytical Standards Across the Organization

  • Contribute to and help lead a community of practice for embedded analysts.
  • Codify and uphold standards for dashboard design, documentation, governance, and metric definition.
  • Support adoption of best practices in BI development and data storytelling.

Career Growth and Development

We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You’ll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. We hold career reviews every six months, and set aside time to discuss your aspirations and career goals. You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics or BI development.
  • Strong SQL skills; working knowledge of Python or R preferred.
  • Experience building automated data workflows and scalable dashboards in BI tools (Superset, Power BI, Dataiku preferred).
  • User-Centric Data Design: Proven ability to practice stakeholder empathy—moving beyond simple requirements-gathering to deeply understand the operational context of our users
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts and semantic layers.
  • Ability to translate complex business logic into clear, usable data products.
  • Experience with data storytelling and communicating insights to diverse audiences.
  • English fluency. Other useful languages are Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, and French

One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. Headquartered in Bungoma, Kenya, the organization works with farmers in rural villages throughout Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi.

Using a market-based approach, One Acre Fund facilitates activities and transactions at various levels of the farming value chain, including seed sourcing and market support. In 2015, farmers who worked with One Acre Fund realized a 300% return on their investment and significantly increased farm income on every planted acre.

One Acre Fund offers smallholder farmers an asset-based loan that includes: 1) distribution of seeds and fertilizer; 2) financing for farm inputs; 3) training on agriculture techniques; and 4) market facilitation to maximize profits. Each service bundle is around US$80 in value and includes crop insurance to mitigate the risks of drought and disease.

To receive the One Acre Fund loan and training, farmers must join a village group that is supported by a local One Acre Fund field officer. Field officers meet regularly with the farmer groups to coordinate delivery of farm inputs, administer trainings and to collect repayments. One Acre Fund offers a flexible repayment system: farmers may pay back their loans in any increment at any time during the growing season. Beyond their core program model, One Acre Fund also offers smallholder farmers opportunities to purchase additional products and services on credit. These include solar lights and reusable sanitary pads.
