The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is a nonprofit organisation that works to conserving threatened species and ecosystems in southern Africa to the benefit of all people.

EWT seeks to appoint a Grant Manager to be based in Johannesburg.

Preferred start date: 1st September 2017

The Grant Manager (GM) will be responsible for the overall management and administration of all grants awarded to the EWT.  The GM will ensure that the services in areas of finance, administration and compliance are delivered efficiently and effectively on all grants, and will provide accurate and timely operational information for quality management implementation, planning, directing and controlling activities in support of programme operations.  S/he will liaise with the Finance Manager and the governance staff in respect of all bilateral and institutional grants and sub-grants into which the EWT is entering or plans to enter.

The Grants Manager will, inter alia, be responsible for maintain granting management files; analysing reviewing and comprehensively understanding all grant agreements, grant modifications, sub-grant agreements and all applicable donor rules and regulations documentation. Through on-the-job training, workshops and other direct support, they will assist in strengthening the capacity of EWT Programme Managers (PMs) and sub-grantees to efficiently manage bilateral and institutional grants in accordance with donor requirements.  They will establish meaningful working relationships with all donor project officers to ensure smooth communications with donors; and manage donor-approved budget amendments, adjustments and reforecasts, including those coming from sub-grantees where relevant.

The GM will establish and implement appropriate systems to guide the procurement process from “cradle-to-grave” and establish a comprehensive, approved vendor database. The GM will prepare tender documents, summary bid analyses and other appropriate documentation and ensure that the EWT financial accounting system captures financial data in a way which supports individual grant reporting and audit requirements. The GM will develop sub-grantee monitoring tools, both financial and programmatic.

Requirements:

  • An accounting / financial management qualification
  • Track record in financial systems, accounting and financial management
  • A compulsory minimum of five years’ work experience in grant management in the NGO sector
  • Strong management and decision-making skills, self-motivated, able to work independently and proactively
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Compulsory strong proficiency in the use of Pastel
  • Demonstrated strengths in relationship management
  • Able to work as a member of, and to lead, a team with colleagues
  • Organisational and planning skills; detail-oriented, adaptable, flexible
  • Willingness to travel visiting project sites
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer)
