Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh), with headquarters in Lausanne and an office in Zurich, is the leading Swiss organisation for child rights. In 2022, we supported 2.6 million children and members of their communities around the world. We trained people who in turn supported a further 4.5 million children and members of their communities.

Context :

Terre des hommes is active in Nigeria since 2008 through development activities in the South-West of the country (via a “migration” multi countries project closed in 2020) and since 2018 through humanitarian assistance in Borno’s state (health, nutrition, child protection (CP), education in emergency (EiE), WASH and psychosocial support (PSS)).

Since 2022, Tdh has reduced its footprint in the Borno’s state and focus its intervention in Maiduguri metropole city through an integrated project (CP / EiE / PSS / WASH) focusing on IDPs and host communities.

Based on the strengths of the delegation (a committed and skilled team, a well-known and recognized expertise in CP and EiE, etc.), Tdh would like to reinforce its presence in Nigeria in deploying its programmatic approach (3 programs (Health (including nutrition), Migration and Access to Justice) and 2 expertise (CP and WASH)) through humanitarian activities and development approach.

The position of Grant & Reporting Officer will be instrumental in coordinating proposal development to better position Tdh in the complex and competitive context of Nigeria, and she/he will support the implementation of the short and mid-term strategy to secure fundings. The position will be based in Maiduguri.

General Responsibilities :

Under the responsibility of the Head of Delegation, the Grant & Reporting Officer duties will include coordinating and contributing to proposal writing processes; coordinating and editing progress/final reports; handling grant administration and follow-up; ensuring compliance with grant regulations; identifying funding opportunity; disseminating Tdh program staff on donor policies; and supporting in the project cycle management, monitoring, and external communication aspects.

Profile :

Education :

Masters / Post-graduate from a recognized University/college in International Development, Social Sciences or any other related area that can bring added value to the job.

Experience & Competencies :

  • Proven analytical skills and the ability to think strategically in relation to fundraising and donor engagement.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; able to understand complex issues and translate them into simple, workable actions and plans.
  • Experience with working in multi-cultural environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Good administrative and numerical skills and attention to details.
  • Ability to adjust to constantly changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through.
  • Excellent planning skills and understanding of Programme Cycle Management in emergencies and/or development environments.
  • Knowledge in securing and managing funds from institutional donors would be an asset.

Languages :

Excellent personal communication skills, in written and verbal English, with high impact influencing and persuasive skills

Knowledge in French is an asset.

IT :

High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Conditions:

  • Swiss contract
  • Gross monthly salary CHF 2450.- x13,36 months
  • Insurances: sickness, accident, repatriation
  • Annual leaves: 25 days/year
  • Flights to duty station and back

Terre des hommes, also Terre des Hommes (Land of People, literally, Land of Men) is an international children's rights charitable humanitarian umbrella organization under the aegis of the International Federation of Terre des Hommes (TDHIF), with independent organizations in Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, and Syria. It was founded in 1960 by Edmond Kaiser in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The organization is named after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's 1939 philosophical memoir "Terre des hommes" (English title: Wind, Sand and Stars). An important part of the TDHIF's work is as a consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Promoting the Convention on the Rights of a Child is an important activity of Tdh. Advocating for children’s rights, defending them, and spreading information are tasks which Terre des Hommes – to the aid of children considers a priority.
