The graphic and brand design consultant will support the Communications and Visibility functions of the Cooperation on Migration and Partnerships to Achieve Sustainable Solutions (COMPASS) Programme.   1. Category A Consultants: Tasks to be performed under this contract

Working under the supervision of the COMPASS Communications and Awareness Raising Officer, the consultant will be the main graphic designer and guardian of the IOM brand for all outputs under the COMPASS programme in the 14 target countries and globally. The selected candidate will work remotely with a team of two communication officers, a knowledge management consultant, an editor and occasionally a freelance illustrator, animation/motion designer and content creators in the field (video/photography).

The main role of the graphic and brand design consultant is to help the 14 COMPASS countries and the communications team to roll out visuals, report lay-outs, templates, promotional items, data visualizations and other design products in support of the programme’s goals and outcomes. We are looking for someone who is creative, a fast worker with strong communication skills, detail oriented, who understands branding and can create easily accessible solutions for all.

This includes the following tasks:

  • Attending team meetings to discuss the monthly workplan.
  • Keep oversight of ongoing tasks, manage coordination with country focal points, and store (source) files in a way that the team always has online access.
  • Produce the lay-out of research and data reports produced under the COMPASS programme and by IOM’s Protection Division in Geneva for global publications (in English and French).
  • Liaise with IOM’s Research, Publications, Brand and Design units to guarantee the correct application of IOM’s graphic design guidelines.
  • Provide source files for Arabic translations of visuals and publications..
  • Design data visualisations presenting the outcomes of COMPASS research on migrant protection and counter-trafficking data, and on progress made by the programme.
  • Produce bespoke designs for COMPASS’ sustainable goodies produced by migrants and local teams.
  • Provide overall graphic design support and brand guidance to the team.
  • Carry out other tasks as may be required.

This consultancy is at a fulltime basis, or the equivalent of 20 working days per month. The consultant can work remotely but must be available online for bilateral and team meetings and live feedback moments with the IOM team for at least 4 hours per working day, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm UCT (Dakar, Senegal).

  1. Performance indicators for the evaluation of results

At the beginning of each month, the graphic and brand design consultant and the communications team discuss the workload for the upcoming month and update the planner. All deliverables (including source and print files) will be uploaded to a dedicated shared folder. The graphic designer should keep the communications team involved and in the loop of ongoing and finalized projects, while coordinating directly with the focal points.

The deliverables set out in the monthly workplans are the main performance indicators for the consultancy, alongside the correct execution of IOM/COMPASS design guidelines and the need for review.

  1. Education, Experience and/or skills required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a range of design and branding projects.
  • Proven experience as a graphic designer, with a minimum of 3 years in the industry.
  • Expertise in using design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Demonstrated experience in print and digital design.
  • Proficiency in motion design, animation or video editing are considered a strong asset.
  • Proficient in graphic design principles, including layout.
  • Strong creative and conceptual thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Up to date with industry trends and design software.
  • Creativity, innovation and attention to detail.
  • Experience within the UN or large INGO is an asset.

The consultant should dispose of their own, top-notch equipment. Licenses for the Adobe Creative Package and Canva Pro can be provided by IOM.

  1. Travel required

The assignment does not require travel, but the consultant may be invited to join the Communications team for a planning and coordination meeting in Dakar, Senegal.
