We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Gynaecologist / Obstetrician

Location: Shinkafi, Zamfara
Employment Type: Contract (Fixed-term starting with 6 months, Renewable Level 9)
Contract: 208 working hours per month

Main Purpose 

  • Implement gynecological and obstetrician procedures, performing any other prior treatment required, during or immediately after a woman has given birth in order to improve women’s reproductive health and to reduce pregnancy, delivery and neonatology risks.
  • This will be done in accordance with MSF policies, protocols and universal hygiene standards and in multidisciplinary collaboration with other medical doctors and midwife services.

Job Description

  • Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Ensure the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices.
  • In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools in order to improve gynecological results and to share knowledge among other field specialists.
  • Plan and supervise the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the gynecological/Obstetrics
    staff in order to ensure both an efficient sizing and the amount of knowledge required, to improve people’s capabilities and their active participation in influencing the targeted population using preventive practices.
  • This will be done in close coordination with the HR
    department.
  • Supervise the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated and available.
  • This will be done in cooperation with the pharmacist and logistic staff, the management.
  • Provide and supervise comprehensive obstetric, surgical, and newborn care in collaboration with anesthetists, midwives, and nurses, ensuring quality management of deliveries, surgical procedures, maternity care, and hospitalized patients with pregnancyrelated complications.
  • Assess, plan, and deliver surgical, obstetric, and medical trainings for doctors, midwives, and nurses (including emergency obstetric surgery, pre/peri/postoperative care, obstetric emergencies, hygiene, ultrasound, and related skills), in collaboration with responsible staff, and adapt trainings based on service evaluations and identified needs.
  • Ensure quality of care through adherence to MSF protocols, supervision of instruments, drugs, sterilization and data systems; investigate maternal deaths; collect, analyze, and report medical data (weekly and monthly Sitreps); and actively contribute to team meetings and Project annual planning.

Requirements 

  • Education: Essential, Obstetrics & Gynaecology specialist fellowship.
  • Experience
    • Essential: at least 2 years of certified work experience in Gynaecology
    • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
  • Language Essential: English; local working language (Hausa) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel)
  • Competencies:
    •  Commitment to MSF Principles, Behavioural Flexibility, Stress Management, Results, and
    • Quality Orientation, Teamwork and Cooperation, Service Orientation.

Remuneration
As per MSF salary scale (National contract).

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
