Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, notforprofit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. MSF has been active in Katsina since February 2021 after carrying an exploratory mission that end up with an opening of the project. Currently, MSF is running two ITFCs (Inpatient Therapeutic Feeding Centre) in Katsina in the Kofar Sauri PHCC and Turai Yar’adua PHCC and 5 ATFC (Ambulatory Therapeutic Feeding Centre) including three in Jibia LGA (Magama, Daddara, Riko,) one in Mashi and one in Katsina City (Kofar Marusa).

Main Purpose

  • Supervising a group of hygiene agents, ensuring proper planning and follow up of standard hygiene measurements in all departments of the hospital, monitoring the quality of the work and performing handson tasks as part of the team, according to
  • MSF protocols, standards, and procedures to ensure smooth functioning of the mission.
  • Supervising the laundry workers, ensuring proper planning and follow up of standard hygiene measurements, monitoring the quality of work and performing hands on tasks as part of the team, according to MSF protocols, standards, and procedures to ensure smooth functioning of the mission.

Job Description

  • Supervising the team under his/her responsibility, passing on management directives, adapting the number of workers per team according to the work and needs.
  • If relevant and with approval of the line manager, recruiting daily workers according to their needs.
  • Together with the IPC Supervisor, manage daily workers, applying same criteria as managing other unskilled workers.
  • Monitoring the quality of work of his team, checking that the instructions guidelines to be used by the workers are systematically followed and applied and that the tasks are completed in each period.
  • Asking for the work to be redone and giving a helping hand, if necessary.
  • Responsible for the planning and administrative followup, filling in and following schedules according to activities and needs and the daily worker forms and handing them over to the line manager.
  • Paying daily worker teams, depending on the circumstances and informing the line manager of any HR problems.
  • Responsible for the tools and equipment placed at his disposal, carrying out its monthly inventory with the workers and ensuring its replacement when needed.
  • Ensure the bedside ABHR are filled and properly secured to the bed.
  • Responsible for the timely movement of staff uniform movement (both dirty and cleaning) from TYY to KS and back the disinfection of the vehicle and container for carrying the dirty uniforms after transportation.
  • Assist the Laundry team iexpediting the cleaning and organization of the uniforms according to numbers or size and cadre for ease of identification.
  • Verifying that all internal toilets, handwashing points are stocked with essential items and ensure adequate water supply during shortages.
  • Monitoring the quality of work of his team, checking that the instructions guidelines to be used by the workers are systematically followed and applied and that the tasks are completed in each period.
  • Asking for the work to be redone and giving a helping hand, if necessary.
  • Support the IPC Supervisor/DHN with administrative follow up, filling in and following the schedules/rosters according to activities and needs.
  • Informing the line manager of any HR problems.
  • Filling daily worker forms and handing them over to the Supervisor and Manager.
  • Ensure collaborative effort with WATSAN agents to maintain the external premises and Caregivers toilets indicators are always clean and tidy.
  • Ensuring the MSF premises are securely locked, including doors and windows.
  • For tents, open the sides for fresh air and light during the day and close them at night, including when it is raining.
  • Reporting to the IPC Supervisor/Deputy Head Nurse about the progress of the work and eventual incidents.
  • Responsible for the equipment and tools directly under his/her domain, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining, and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
  • Ensuring proper waste disposal and segregation. Bins ¾ filled and properly removed
  • S/he will support the IPC Supervisor and the DHN in preparing monthly attendance sheet and timely validations to submit to HR office.
  • Will supervise use of personal protective equipment by the cleaners; guide on correct donning and doffing process to prevent accidental exposures to sharps and fluids.
  • Monitor waste segregation practices by the medical team, waste management by IPC and WATSAN Agents and share findings with the team, NTS, IPC and WATSAN Supervisors.
  • Bring serious gaps to the attention of the ward and IPC Supervisor for immediate intervention.
  • Together with the IPC Supervisor and the DHN, do appraisal for the team under his/her direct supervision.
  • Report and give explanation on matters of discipline issues and share with immediate supervisor to record incident report.
  • Support the IPC supervisor in using special GlowCheck UV colour to monitor the quality of cleaning of surfaces, interpret findings and give feedback to the hygienist.
  • With the support of the IPC supervisor, train the cleaners on cleaning and disinfection processes/techniques, PPEs: importance, correct and timely use, donning and doffing sequence of PPEs according to the MSF hygiene protocols.
  • Provide onthejob training to the staff to ensure processes are done according to the guidelines.
  • Will be able to interpret and utilize the hygiene guidelines and tools to do monitoring and training of his/her team.
  • Translate the message into local language for the cleaners to understand better.
  • Perform any other related task assigned to him/her.

Requirements

  • Education Essential literacy.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of experience as a skilled worker in this field.
  • Languages: English Language essential; Fluency in reading, writing and oral comprehension.

Remuneration

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
