The position is to be filled as of January 1 2026, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bentiu,Unity State, South Sudan.

The Head of Project (HoP) is responsible for overall leadership and implementation of activities under the donor funded projects. The HoP ensures that the project activities are implemented as per the requirements of WHH and the donor, and as outlined in the grant contract and project proposal. The HoP is responsible for ensuring that the project mainstreams gender and disability inclusion, do no harm principles and the core humanitarian standards. He/She will manage the project staff and project budget. He/She ensures that the timeframe of the of the project is observed. The position is also responsible for developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relations with various stakeholders including local authorities, UN agencies and other NGOs.

The Head of Project reports to the Area Manager and also has a matrix reporting line to the Head of Program Implementation and Accountability as his/her Technical Manager.

Your responsibilities

Facilitate a collaborative team approach towards implementation off distributions for food, cash, NFIs and resilience building initiatives.
Manage all project implementation aspects along with the theory of project cycle management and in accordance with the WFP FLA requirements.
Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and satisfy WHH, donor and other stakeholder requirements.
Timely compile high quality reports for internal reviews and ensure timely submission to donors and other stakeholders.
Proactively identify potential new interventions opportunities and potential partnerships in project implementation and initiate and contribute to the development of new proposals.
Ensure relevant and efficient project staff structure is in place; assign the project staff to various activities and locations of the project implementation.
Undertake project budget management responsibilities including cash forecast, budget reviews and oversight on WHHs FundsPro.
Develop procurement plans and implement them through initiating procurement procedures and follow ups on procurement tracker.
Promote accountability and transparency among project team members in all actions.
Establish effective stakeholder networks and regularly provide relevant feedback to Country Management and project team.
Ensure WHH and project have a visibility plan rolled out through support from the Communications and Advocacy Expert.

Your profile

Relevant University degree in Agriculture, Project Management, Development/Humanitarian Studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, International Relations or Environmental Studies.
Minimum 5 years progressive experience and proven record in Project/Program Cycle Management (PCM) in fragile contexts.
A deep understanding of the food systems and strategic community focused resilience building approaches.
Practical experience on key programming elements in Nutrition, cash based programming, Food Security, Climate adaptation, gender sensitivity and mainstreaming, conflict sensitive programming experience in local governance and policy development are important assets.
Excellent record with various donors including WFP, USAID, FCDO, GIZ or BMZ.
Proven management experience in leading a functionally diverse team.
Willingness to travel, live and work in remote and volatile locations.
You recognize the growing value of data within an organization and inspire teams to make decisions grounded in analysis and evidence.
Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries.
Excellent command of spoken and written English.
Ability to work under pressure with minimum or no supervision.
Commitment to create positive relationships with colleagues, local authorities and communities.
