POSITION SUMMARY:
The Health and Nutrition Advisor provides strategic and technical leadership to World Relief Sudan’s health and nutrition portfolio. The Advisor ensures high-quality, evidence-based programming across preventive, curative, and community-based health and nutrition interventions in complex humanitarian settings. This position plays a key role in strengthening health systems, improving service delivery, supporting proposal development, and building local capacity in alignment with national standards and international best practices.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership and Technical Support
- Provide overall technical guidance and leadership for all health and nutrition activities across World Relief Sudan’s operational areas.
- Oversee the implementation of Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), maternal and child health, disease prevention, and primary health care programs.
- Ensure all activities comply with WHO, UNICEF, and Ministry of Health (MoH) standards and protocols.
- Lead regular program reviews to evaluate progress against targets, identify gaps, and recommend adaptive strategies.
Coordination and Representation
- Serve as the primary technical focal point for coordination with the MoH, UN agencies, and Health and Nutrition Clusters.
- Represent World Relief in donor, inter-agency, and coordination forums, ensuring alignment and collaboration with national and international partners.
- Support proposal development, needs assessments, and program design processes to secure new funding and expand impact.
Capacity Building and Supervision
- Identify training needs and build the technical capacity of health and nutrition staff through coaching, mentoring, and structured learning sessions.
- Promote strong performance management practices within the team, including goal setting, feedback, and professional development.
- Ensure staff adhere to World Relief’s values, safeguarding policies, and code of conduct.
Quality Assurance and Learning
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of health and nutrition indicators.
- Promote data-driven decision-making through the use of MEAL systems and field supervision.
- Lead technical input into program evaluations, lessons learned, and documentation of best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This role includes direct supervision of technical coordinators or managers within the Health and Nutrition sector. Responsibilities include managing daily activities, monitoring performance, approving timesheets, leading check-ins, documenting performance issues, and ensuring compliance with World Relief policies. Managers at World Relief are also considered spiritual leaders and are expected to model and reinforce the organization’s Christian values in daily work.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Able to affirm World Relief’s Core Beliefs and Statement of Faith, and acknowledge World Relief’s Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an accredited university.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in public health, primary medical care, or humanitarian health programming, with at least 3 years in a leadership or advisory capacity in low-resource or conflict-affected settings.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience with CMAM, reproductive health, disease surveillance, and integrated community health programming.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, health systems strengthening, and donor compliance (USAID/BHA, ECHO, UNICEF, WHO).
- Communication: Fluency in written and spoken English required; Arabic proficiency is an asset.
- Other: Willingness to travel extensively to field sites and live in austere environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Additional degree or qualification in Public Health or a related field.
- Previous experience working with faith-based or multi-sectoral international NGOs.
- Experience mentoring national health professionals and building capacity within local health systems.
- Experience working in Sudan.
