· Job Profile
The Health and Nutrition Advisor will be based in N’Djamena, Chad, with frequent field visits to Wadi Fira, where Relief International (RI) is preparing to launch its health and nutrition programming. RI’s work in Chad will focus on the launch and delivery of primary health care and nutrition support to health facilities in Eastern Chad, as well as the deployment of a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) to extend access to remote and underserved communities.
This position requires a seasoned professional who is accustomed to the pace of emergency response programming, with a proven ability to lead diverse teams, adapt to evolving contexts, and foster strong partnerships with government authorities, UN agencies, and NGO partners. The Health and Nutrition Advisor will provide technical leadership and strategic guidance to field management and health and nutrition teams, overseeing the design, development, monitoring, and evaluation of health interventions within the country program.
In addition to program oversight, the Health and Nutrition Advisor will engage with national and regional health and nutrition authorities, representing RI at a senior level and actively contributing to health sector coordination. They will play a key role in shaping quality standards and protocols to enhance program impact while leading health-related aspects of proposal development, reporting oversight, and capacity building for technical staff. By promoting best practices in health programming and contributing to the strategic direction of the country program, this role will ensure RI’s health interventions are effective, responsive, and aligned with humanitarian and national health priorities.

Accountability and Complexity
· Contribute to the development of longer term operational and strategic plans, and translate longer term strategy into departmental work plans.

Technical program management
· Provide technical guidance to program managers on health and nutrition interventions.
· Ensure the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all project aspects.
· Support the evaluation and impact analysis of health and nutrition programs, including proposal writing and donor reporting within required timeframes.
· Identify and pursue new health funding opportunities (e.g., consortiums, geographical expansion, new calls for proposals, innovation).
· Conduct regular monitoring visits with field managers to assess program progress, compliance with standards, and effectiveness of implementation.
· Strengthen reporting systems for health data collection, analysis, and feedback to relevant stakeholders.
· Provide advisory support on quality control and storage of health and nutrition supplies.
Program development and representation
· Develop and maintain strategic relationships with the MoH, UN, INGOs, donors, and other key stakeholders to enhance program visibility and partnerships.
· Represent the organization in technical sector meetings, regional forums, and learning events, sharing insights and best practices across teams.
· Lead the development of health and nutrition components in funding proposals, ensuring alignment with program priorities and donor requirements.
Program quality assurance
· Assess and strengthen health management structures, evaluating team capacities and program management effectiveness.
· Develop and implement guidelines for maintaining quality health and nutrition services across program locations.
· Improve data collection and reporting systems at the facility level, ensuring accurate and timely analysis for decision-making.
· Maintain an updated resource library on health sector trends, ensuring staff access to relevant guidelines and technical updates.
· Lead emergency preparedness and response efforts, actively participating in the management of disease outbreaks or humanitarian crises.
· Ensure health projects align with donor guidelines, national policies, and international standards such as WHO and Sphere guidelines.

- Person Specification
Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role. Essential criteria
· Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field.
· Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in the humanitarian sector.
· Strong expertise in proposal development, report writing, and public health project management, including design, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation.
· Proven experience in project planning, grant management, and oversight within humanitarian emergency settings.
· Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills, particularly in engaging with donors and government officials across diverse cultural and professional contexts.
· Strong ability to develop, implement, and train others in program cycle management, monitoring, and evaluation tools.
· Fluent in spoken and written French and English.
· Skilled in fostering community participation, conducting field visits, and maintaining a strong presence in program areas.
· Hands-on experience managing staff and programs in resource-limited and remote locations.
