Job Title: Health Promotion Officer
Location: Durban, KwaZulu Natal
Employment Type: Fixed-term contract

Interactive Research and Development South Africa (IRD SA) is a South African Section 21 not-for-profit entity and an affiliate of Interactive Research and Development Global (IRD Global), a global health care delivery and research organization headquartered in Singapore with service delivery and technical assistance experience in over 15 countries. IRD has fully operational offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria (Gauteng) and in Durban (KwaZulu-Natal).

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate health promotion programs for community groups
  • Inform and involve other healthcare professionals on community health issues
  • Design and develop public information campaigns using radio, television, newspapers, pamphlets, posters and websites
  • Design health promotional material, i.e. digital and prints
  • Promote health-related issues such as vaccinations, physical exercise and good nutrition.
  • Promote health awareness on health issues

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Provincial and District Department of Health (DOH) South Africa, NGO partners and other stakeholders in identifying program priorities, developing strategies and coordinating health awareness campaigns;
  • Manage and develop annual work plan; identify and incorporate appropriate health promotional actions in a work plan consistent with project objectives and aligned with national program needs;
  • Provide support to the IRD SA team, DOH, NGO partners in planning and implementing health promotion & campaigns as required;
  • Develop training strategies and materials, and facilitate planning and conducting TOT and training of health care staff;
  • Identifying healthcare gaps within communities and assisting with addressing these gaps.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Public Health or a Marketing related qualification
  • Two-Five years’ experience in the field of public health.
  • At least Two years of experience in health promotion; knowledge of current and emerging health issues; commitment to diversity and inclusion; and effective communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation required.
  • Knowledge on the South African health system (provincial, district, sub-district levels) will be an advantage:
    • Familiarity with motivational interviewing strategies; organizational and leadership experience and knowledge of effective marketing strategies, particularly using social media; and health promotion experience in public health environment is preferred
    • Intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spread sheet, graphics.
  • ​Efficient in Microsoft office
  • Ability to facilitate and present publically at project meetings and in public forums.
