The AFM Welfare Council is one of South Africa’s most successful and long-standing welfare organisations with a proud history. It all started in 1938 when the first two orphans were left at the front door of Pastor Gerrie Wessels in Brixton. He took the initiative and the church started a Children’s Home. And the rest, as they say, is history

AFM Welfare Council seeks to appoint a three Housemothers to be based in Gauteng:

  • House Wees Gerus (Florida)
  • House Impact (Edenvale)
  • House Dorandia (Pretoria North)

 Salary package includes:

  • Salary
  • Meals and accommodation

Responsibilities:

  • Overall management of the day-to-day care of 9 to 12 traumatised children
  • Overall running and management of a large household
  • All driving duties for the children within the centre, i.e. school, sport activities, hospital/ clinic, therapy appointments, etc
  • In partnership with the social worker, facilitate the CYCC programmes
  • Regular communication/ feedback with the relevant stakeholders, including ongoing communication and engagement with the CYCC social worker, regarding the children
  • All administrative work, regarding the children and the CYCC
  • Form part of and work effectively within a multi-professional team

Requirements:

  • Matric
  • Training/ Experience in working with children; (Preference will be given to registered Child and Youth Care Workers and those with relevant experience)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficiency in English (and additional SA languages will be an advantage)
  • Driver’s License and PDP (Experienced drivers will be preferred)
  • Aged 35 and above
  • Health (Healthy lifestyle, Non- drinker/ Non- Smoker)
  • Preferably married (at least 7 years married)
  • Willing and able to participate in extensive training
  • Must have passion for and experience in working with children
