Position Title: Immigration and Border Management (IBM) Programme Support Intern

Duty Station: Niamey, Niger

Duration: 6 months

  1. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

Under the direct supervision of the Head of IBM Unit in Niger and the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Niger, the staff will be accountable and responsible for assisting the planning, development, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of IOM Niger programmes on immigration and border management (IBM). Extensive travel on the field and across the country will be required.

  1. OVERALL OBJECTIVE

The staff will aim at:

  • Participating in projects’ development, including preliminary research, narratives writing, budget planning, ensuring project’s compliance with IOM standards and donor requirements on IBM.
  • Supporting activities’ implementation on border management projects in Niger, especially the MIDAS system deployment.
  • Supporting the Project Officers & Managers for monitoring and evaluation, including reporting tasks on IOM projects, national and regional.
  • Assisting at strengthening links with existing/remaining Governmental Counterparts, NGOs, UN Agencies and Donors in Niger.
  • Assisting the IBM team in managing administration, communications and visibility.

III. DURATION OF THE CONTRACT:

The duration of the contract is six (6) months. The starting date is approximately 02/05/2018, the end date is 01/11/2018.

  1. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education

  • University or Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Law, International Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

Experience

  • Experience in report writing and project development participation is a distinct advantage;
  • Experience in liaising with Government authorities, other national /international institutions and donors (including, preferably, EU institutions and civil society organizations) is a distinct advantage;
  • Knowledge in the Western and Central African (WCA) region is a distinct advantage.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and French is required.

  • The incumbent will gain exposure in the Immigration and Border Management Unit.
  • He/she will also gain in-site experience in working with an international organization.
