Summary
The ICT Support Officer requires broad technical knowledge and systems management experience. He/she also must work well with people and coordinate efforts with Cuso International’s ICT Team based at headquarters and any regional ICT support staff.
Key responsibilities
Business management
- Help establish, communicate, and maintain organization-wide ICT policies
- Maintain accurate asset management records in collaboration with the Finance and Administration team
- In collaboration with the Country Program Office (CPO) Finance Officer and HQ-based ICT Team, research and negotiate contracts for the purchase and/or lease of new office equipment
- Help forecast ICT costs and expenses for budgeting purposes
- Dispose of unneeded ICT equipment and media in a secure and environmentally responsible manner
Security
- Ensure networks, information systems and data are accessible only by authorized staff
- Implement and maintain tools to protect the organization’s networks, information systems and data against computer viruses, spam, network intrusion, and related threats
Availability
- Maintain an appropriate CPO data backup regime
- Verify backups are functional and safely stored
- Develop and implement a disaster recovery plan for data stored in the CPO
Configuration and change management
- Install, configure and manage:
o Desktop hardware (workstations, laptops), system software (Windows operating system,
Symantec anti-virus, Skype, printer drivers etc…) and application software for staff, volunteers and Youth Resource Centres (YRC).
(Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader, clients for main line-of-business applications)
o Server hardware and software (Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Symantec anti-virus server, shared folder configuration and security)
o Network hardware (switches, firewall appliance, Ethernet cabling, wireless access points)
o Printers, scanners and other peripherals
- Plan system changes thoroughly (schedule, communicate to staff, backup, implement, test, rollback if necessary, backup, communicate to staff)
Operations and performance management
- Develop and implement routine software and hardware maintenance procedures
- Monitoring network and application performance to support capacity planning
- Train staff when required in new ICT tools
Problem management
- Prioritize and manage ICT issues as the first level of support in the CPO
- Offer ICT support to other CPOs in the region, which may require travel occasionally
- When necessary, escalate issues to the second level of support (either the regional ICT Support person or the ICT Team at HQ)
Special projects
As Cuso International implements and updates information systems and technologies, the ICT Support Officer at the CPO is expected to assist and represent the CPO’s particular circumstances, opportunities and constraints.
Other responsibilities
The ICT Support Officer is expected to work effectively as part of a small team, and in particular:
- Undertake specific additional responsibilities from time-to-time, as may be agreed upon with the line manager
- Provide coverage for other staff when needed
- Occasionally work outside of normal business hours
Qualifications
Essential
- College degree in Computer Science or equivalent diploma
- Strong analytic and technical troubleshooting skills
- Minimum 3 years’ experience configuring and supporting networks and related equipment and services: LAN, WAN, wireless networks; DNS, DHCP; networked printers/peripherals and shared folders; firewall appliances, VPN
- Significant experience supporting and using Microsoft’s Office 365
- Proven experience managing:
o Windows-based servers with Active Directory
o Windows 7 and Windows 10 workstations and laptops
o Office 2013 and 2016 implementations on workstations
o Mobile ICT devices including tablets and smartphones
o Excellent ability to organize and prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
o Good written and verbal communication skills
o Fluency in English
o Fluency in working languages of CPOs in region (if supporting the other CPOs)
Desirable
o Prior experience training or teaching
