Through information management, we help our partners target assistance to the world’s most vulnerable populations, and we support local authorities and institutions to enhance their capacities and become autonomous in their internal data and information management activities.
Purpose of the Internship
The Information Management Systems Intern will support the Information Management team in the collection, processing, analysis, visualization, and management of data to support humanitarian and development programs. The intern will gain practical experience in information management systems, data analysis, GIS, reporting, and digital solutions while working alongside experienced professionals on donor-funded projects.
Key Responsibilities
Information Management Support
– Assist in collecting, cleaning, validating, and organizing program data from various sources.
– Support the maintenance and updating of information management systems and databases.
– Assist in ensuring data quality, consistency, and completeness.
– Support the documentation of information management processes and standard operating procedures.
Data Analysis and Reporting
– Assist in analysing program data to support operational decision-making.
– Support the preparation of periodic reports, factsheets, and information products.
– Generate summary statistics, tables, and charts for internal and external reporting.
– Assist in compiling project indicators and monitoring data.
GIS and Data Visualization
– Support the production of maps and other geospatial products using GIS software.
– Assist in developing dashboards, charts, and visualizations using Power BI or other visualization tools.
– Help prepare infographics and visual information products for program teams and partners.
Database and Digital Systems
– Assist in maintaining digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or SurveyCTO.
– Support testing and deployment of digital data collection forms.
– Assist in troubleshooting minor technical issues related to information management systems.
– Support data backup, storage, and documentation processes.
Learning and Team Support
– Participate in project meetings, technical discussions, and capacity-building sessions.
– Support administrative and operational tasks related to information management activities.
– Demonstrate initiative in learning new information management tools and technologies.
– Perform other duties as assigned by the Information Management Manager or Supervisor.
Qualifications
Education
Recent graduate with up to one year of experience holding a Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Statistics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or another related discipline.
Experience
– Up to one year of relevant work experience, internship, volunteer experience, or academic projects related to information management, data analysis, GIS, or information systems.
– Strong interest in humanitarian and development programming is desirable.
Technical Skills
– Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
– Basic knowledge of Microsoft Power BI or Tableau is desirable.
– Familiarity with KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, or similar mobile data collection platforms is an advantage.
– Basic knowledge of GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS is desirable.
– Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or other data analysis tools is an added advantage.
– Understanding of databases and information management concepts is desirable.

– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Good attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
– Strong organizational and time-management skills.
– Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
– Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
