Context :

The Innovative Financing Global Advisor will support Terre des hommes’ (Tdh) new global initiative on innovative financing, established to diversify funding sources and strengthen long-term organizational future readiness. In alignment with the global institutional initiative, the Advisor will drive learning, scoping, partnership development, and early implementation of innovative financing approaches relevant to Tdh’s mission, programs, and geographical presence. The role serves as Tdh’s internal engine for financial innovation: building capacity, coordinating cross-departmental work, engaging external experts, and designing pilot initiatives that will contribute to the next global strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Leadership

  • Support the delivery of Tdh’s innovative financing roadmap in specific contexts and programs/thematic areas of Tdh.
  • Conduct strategic analysis of market trends, donor shifts, and emerging financing models in the humanitarian and development sectors.
  • Translate complex financing concepts into actionable opportunities for Tdh.

Landscape Analysis & Knowledge Building

  • Conduct and update a comprehensive mapping of financing instruments, actors, and mechanisms relevant to Tdh in specific countries, regions, thematic areas/programs.
  • Facilitate internal learning through workshops, expert briefings, and capacity-building sessions across departments and regions.
  • Identify internal capacity gaps (finance, risk, compliance, legal, MEAL) and propose strengthening measures.

Partnership Development

  • Engage external experts, donors, DFIs, financial institutions, consultancies, and academic partners to support the initiatives of Tdh in the field.
  • Build Tdh’s credibility in the innovative financing ecosystem, representing the organization in relevant forums when required.
  • Explore opportunities to join existing mechanisms or consortia.

Pilot Design and Early Implementation

  • Coordinate the design of pilot(s) in strategic domains (climate, health, child protection, migration, etc.).
  • Formalize technical partnerships needed for implementation.

Document early lessons learned to inform strategy development for 2028+.

Profile :

Education :

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Development, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related field

Specific training in blended finance, impact investing, or development finance.

Experience / Skills :

  • Proven experience (7+ years) in innovative financing, humanitarian, and development finance.
  • Track record in working with financial mechanisms and instruments used in the humanitarian and development sectors.
  • Proven experience in working with multilateral development banks or consulting companies focused on humanitarian and development finance.
  • Experience in working in cross-functional teams and working with financial, legal, and programmatic stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate market intelligence into strategy and actionable proposals.
  • Excellent analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of INGO operational challenges and realities is an asset.
  • Experience engaging external experts, donors, DFIs, or private‑sector actors.
  • Solid knowledge of impact measurement design and reporting.

Languages :

  • Fluency in English (required)
  • Working knowledge of French (an asset)

IT knowledge :

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Salary :

  • The salary will be determined in accordance with Tdh Kenya salary scale based on the candidate’s relevant professional experience.
