Context:

Since 1985, IOM has been collaborating closely with the Government of Zimbabwe to implement a wide range of programmes and projects covering various programmatic areas, such as migration and development, refugee resettlement, assisted voluntary return and reintegration, humanitarian emergency and transition recovery, migrant health assessments.

IOM Zimbabwe has a main office in Harare and implements relevant projects in partnership with the UN agencies, Government and undertakes liaison and advocacy activities with various multilateral institutions at the regional levels to enhance research, policy development and dialogue on migration-related matters.

This internship position is designed to assist in the process of scaling up programming and operational capacities to adequately respond to the increasing migration governance and development challenges through inclusion of its programming into national development agenda; UN cooperation framework addressing SDG 10.7 challenges.**

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist administratively in preparation of thematic trainings to the state and non-state actors as required; and ensure that IOM’s visibility and the Mission’s interests are accurately communicated.
  2. Coordinate related research and initiatives for programming or projects in migration governance and development portfolio.
  3. Assist in maintaining good working relationship with partners and act as secretary for UN Migration network and related issues in Zimbabwe.
  4. Assist in consolidating IOM Mission inputs to the development of crucial planning od country common assessment (CCA) and the UN development cooperation framework (ZUNDAF).
  5. Assist administratively in building material for mission resource mobilization events, considering national and donor priorities in Zimbabwe, in close coordination with the CoM and relevant units within the Mission.
  6. Maintain continuous dialogue with relevant stakeholders to identify synergies with IOM’s programmes and make recommendations in coordination with the CoM and relevant units within the Mission.
  7. Participate as required to support functions such as project development, reporting, donor relations, public information and information management are provided to project managers and project implementation teams in a timely manner.
  8. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Chief of Mission

Required

Qualifications and Experience

Education

· Advanced university degree from an accredited academic institution in, International Development, International Relations, related social science fields or an equivalent combination of training and experience

· Minimum of 2 years work experience in institutional development

· Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in project cycle management and reporting work with an international organization, UN agency or NGO.

Experience

· Proven experience in liaising with the UN and Civil Society

· Ability to design and conduct capacity building and institutional development

· Knowledge of recent global migration trends and developments in Sub-Saharan Africa

· Good insight into the current humanitarian as well as development debates and coordination frameworks

· Computer/software literate, preferably knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, Adobe applications/software

· Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting.

· Confirmed interest in migration issues.

· Advanced English writing, communication, and negotiation skills.

Skills

· In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,

· Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.

· Effectively applies knowledge of migration issues within organizational context

· Correctly frames migration issues within their regional, global, and political context)

Languages

Proficiency in written and spoken English.
