Internship Position: Campaign Building and Advocacy 59 views0 applications

Afesis-corplan is a development NGO based in East London whose work contributes towards strengthening participatory local governance and access to urban land for pro-poor housing development. Established in 1983, Afesis-corplan has always advocated for social justice, pushing barriers for citizen participation in governance.

In the year 2022 Afesis-corplan wishes to grow its work on basic norms and standards for domestic water and sanitation into a national campaign. Furthermore, the organisation is growing its social accountability work and will focus on open procurement and the building of agency and capacity of citizens to monitor capacital project spending and public procurement in municipalities. Toward this goal, Afesis-corplan seeks to recruit an intern to strengthen its capacity in campaign building and advocacy.

The internship will be an 11-month fixed contract with clear goals and deliverables as noted above. The intern will work as part of a programme implementing team in Afesis-corplan reporting specifically to a Senior Programme Coordinator whose role will be to mentor, coach and support the intern. Afesis-corplan views this internship as a learning opportunity for both the intern and the organization and while aiming to provide workplace experience to a deserving young graduate, it also seeks to learn and grow from the relationship.

The internship is specifically targeting individuals in the Eastern Cape who desire to build skills and see a future for themselves in the social justice sector. We are looking for a young, active, outgoing and dynamic individual with a degree in any field so long as it’s relevance to the position can be demonstrated. Ability to write, analytical thinking, emotional intelligence, and ability to work in teams are the basic required traits for this position. Ability to speak isiXhosa will be an advantage.

The stipend on offer is R12,000 per month subject to statutory deductions. The position will be based in East London where Afesis-corplan is located. Please submit a copy of your CV, with at least 2 contactable references, and a written sample of your work (an indication of your writing ability) to [email protected].
