Part 1 – Job description

  1. Main purpose of the job

This new role will become part of Tearfund’s wider JISRA implementation team. The Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action (JISRA) is a partnership of 50 civil society organisations based in Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria and Uganda (with supporting lobby and advocacy in Europe and the USA). This international, interreligious partnership is implementing a five-year programme (2021-2025) in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to further peaceful and just societies where all enjoy Freedom of Religion and Belief (FoRB).

The basis of the programme is JISRA’s conviction that Freedom of Religion, Belief, and interfaith dialogue are essential and integral to the realisation of peaceful and just societies. In addition, diverse religious actors, including women and youth, can and need to play an important role in this process as change makers. JISRA believes their voices must be heard.

Tearfund, as one of the consortium partners implementing JISRA, is active in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Mali and Iraq, and the role holder will support all four Tearfund JISRA country teams and their local partners. The main purpose of the role is to verify and substantiate M&E and other data collected through the JISRA programme and to align this data to create coherent, impactful and data driven materials to communicate our impact, successes and learnings to donors and similar audiences.

2. Position in organisation

The Data and Communications Officer will become part of the national JISRA team in Nigeria (or other JISRA country as applicable) , as well as collaborating closely with the wider Tearfund JISRA Team and other local and consortium partners.

  • Grade: Croner 5 BG 6
  • Salary: NGN 7,368,829.00 (Gross per annum)
  • Reports to: JISRA country coordinator or co-leads
  • Is accountable to the JISRA country teams and the wider Tearfund JISRA Team, both at global and country level
  • Works closely with Project Coordinators, Project Officers, M&E staff and partner staff
  • works closely with Tearfund NL knowledge and learning and communications staff
  • represents Tearfund in the JISRA K&L / comms working groups

5. Duties & Key Responsibilities

Ensuring data validity and reliability

  • Review, collate and triangulate existing M&E data, Outcome Harvesting data, stories, photos, videos and other information available from Tearfund and Tearfund partner JISRA operations
  • Advise on filling any data gaps or improvements to be made to collect better data
  • Triangulate and substantiate data collected, assure data quality, validity and reliability

Create communications materials to showcase findings

  • Present the findings in a coherent and comprehensive way, which can be used in donor meetings, communications, future proposals and reports
  • Support the drafting of reports and other required documents
  • Input into the production of communication materials across JISRA by providing data and assurance
  • Create communications materials based on triangulated data, drawing from a wide range of sources, mostly for donor or INGO audiences

Engage with and support JISRA communications and Knowledge and learning activities

  • Represent Tearfund at the JISRA global level Communications and / or Knowledge and Learning (K&L) working groups
  • Support the creation of JISRA wide Communications or K&L materials / outputs
  • Support JISRA campaigns and other activities as appropriate.

Tearfund is a UK Christian relief and development agency which works in over 50 countries. It is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee.Tearfund supports poor communities, marginalised groups, vulnerable adults, children, churches, education, HIV victims, conflicts, injustice, hunger, water and sanitation.

The charity was created out of the Evangelical Alliance (EA) and the Evangelical Refugee Fund created by the United Nations.

The organisation was originally called The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund Committee (abbreviated to TEAR Fund).

George Hoffman headed up the fund.[In January 1969 Cliff Richard did two fundraising concerts for Tearfund at London's Royal Albert Hall.:29 He has served as the charity's Vice President and in 1999 served as its president.In 2009 Richard gave the proceeds of his first 50th anniversary concert in Wembley Arena to Tearfund.

Tearfund was registered as a charity on 6 March 1973.

Tearfund Ireland was launched as an independent charity in 2008 and now works closely with Tearfund UK as a sister organisation.
