Position Background:

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill three intern positions, of which two interns will be a part of the Programme Unit and one intern of the Human Resources Unit, based in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will be assigned to work with specific units within WFP Somalia.
  • Specific ToR will be developed once the candidate is onboarded, but will be specifically focused on either Programme support or Human Resources.

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

Education: The Internship Programme is open to candidates who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Graduated from high school ( High school certificate required).
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human resource, monitoring and evaluation, communications, finance, economics, Information technology and any other relevant fields.
  • Candidates should be fresh graduates (maximum of 2 years’ time).

Knowledge and Experience

  • No prior experience required.
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills and use of Microsoft office (word, excel, power point).

Language: Intermediate knowledge (level B) in English and fluency in Somali.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Upon receiving proof of certificate or relevant qualifications
  • Interns will receive a monthly stipend from WFP.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from the WFP internship location, necessary visas, and related costs.

The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

WFP was first established in 1961[4] after the 1960 Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Conference, when George McGovern, director of the US Food for Peace Programmes, proposed establishing a multilateral food aid programme. The WFP was formally established in 1963 by the FAO and the United Nations General Assembly on a three-year experimental basis. In 1965, the programme was extended to a continuing basis.

Organization

The WFP is governed by an Executive Board which consists of representatives from 36 member states. Ertharin Cousin is the current Executive Director, appointed jointly by the UN Secretary General and the Director-General of the FAO for a five-year term. She heads the Secretariat of the WFP. The European Union is a permanent observer in the WFP and, as a major donor, participates in the work of its Executive Board.

Its vision is a "world in which every man, woman and child has access at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life."

The WFP has a staff of about 11,500 people, the majority of whom work in remote areas.

United Nations C-130 Hercules transports deliver food to the Rumbak region of Sudan.
