  • Comprehensive knowledge of programmes related to HIV programs and understanding of indicators related to HTS and HIV prevention
  • Ability to summarise, interpret and visualise complex data
  • Extensive experience in HIV and AIDS, TB, public health and health systems strengthening
  • Experience in mental health programmes advantageous
  • Knowledge of South African health services
  • Strong report writing capabilities
  • Good communication, problem solving and organizational skills

The Junior Public Health Specialist will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, from quantitative analysis to collaborating with stakeholders, including DoH, suppliers and other partners, to building workable and sustainable solutions to strengthen healthcare systems. The ideal candidate must have strong quantitative and analytical skills, excellent communication and writing skills, be self-directed, be able to adapt to the differing needs of the program and have a strong commitment to excellence. The position will provide support both strategically, operationally  and analytically.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Conduct data analysis to inform programme operations and identify gaps in programme implementation
  • Monitor activities of assigned programmes and collaborate with partner organisations on a regular basis to make sure programs meet requirements
  • Make professional judgements on the quality and effectiveness of HIV/AIDS prevention programs
  • Respond to requests from management and partner organisations for information and technical assistance
  • Co-ordinate on the job training sessions to ensure staff is advised of current prevention protocols
  • Provide updated technical information as it becomes available
  • Participate in the planning, development and review of HTS service delivery and communications components of the annual Country Operational Plan
  • Ensure no duplication and waste of efforts and resources
  • Work with major international donors such as PEPFAR, participate in writing grant proposals and give accurate and relevant reporting as required
  • Develop strategic plans based on what funders requires
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with all levels within the organisation as well as external stakeholders
  • Provide technical support and capacity building on data analysis
  • Scientific report writing and presentation as and when required
  • Coordinate technical working group meetings, including sending out meeting information, receiving and collating all presentations and providing technical assistance to the working group structures.
