Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel-FIDA-Kenya Mombasa Office, you will build bridges that will enable women access justice through legal representation, self-representation, alternative dispute resolution, strategic interest litigation, linkages with pro-bono lawyers and through the informal justice systems in collaboration with your immediate supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Legal Advice & Representation

  • Provides FIDA-K clientswith legal advice and referral services when required
  • Prepare pleadings and legal briefs
  • Conduct Alternative dispute resolution, mediationbetween parties and referralsto Informal Justice Systems
  • Courtattendance
  • Strategic ImpactLitigation

2. Networking& Building Partnerships

  • Assist in coordination ofopen days, legal aid and other workshops organized by the Team
  • Represent the Organisation in meetings with stakeholders and strategic partners
  • Probono lawyers’ coordination
  • Linkages with strategic partners

3. ProgrammeManagement

  • Conduct Trainings including clients on self-representation andInformal justice systems
  • Implementation of grants (projects) and preparationof donor reports
  • Report writing

4. Resource Mobilization

  • Identify support in resource mobilization strategies
  • Identifyviable projects relevant to the team
  • Incollaboration with grants team, develop proposals
  • Meetingwith Donors

Requirements

  1. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
  2. Minimum 2(two) years post admission experience as a practicing Advocate.
  3. Certified ProfessionalMediator or Qualifications from CharteredInstitute ofArbitrators.
  4. Excellent writing, editing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
  5. Verydetail-oriented with stronginterpersonal, organizational andcoordination skills.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively, to multi-task, and to work under pressure.

The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) – Kenya is the premier women’s rights organization in Kenya and has in 30 years offered direct legal aid services to over 300,000 women and positively impacted in structural, institutional, and legal reforms within Kenya to ensure gender sensitivity and responsiveness.

Established in 1985 during the 3rd UN Conference on women held in Nairobi, FIDA Kenya which is a membership organization of over 1,000 women lawyers and law student is committed to the creation of a society that is free from all forms of discrimination against women in Kenya.
