GOAL implements a range of multi-sectoral development, resilience, recovery and humanitarian responses programmes by being sensitive to cross-cutting issues including gender, accountably, child protection, HIV/AIDS. Currently, we work with pastoralist, agro-pastoral, pastoral dropouts, rural small holder farmers, rural/urban youth and street children to respond to humanitarian crises and build resilience in Ethiopia working closely with local communities, local government, donors and other key actors. GOAL E Humanitarian Response is centered on nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, multipurpose cash, NFIs and protection interventions in country wide while the recovery and development focus on livelihoods, economic opportunities, health, health and nutrition system strengthening and WASH with solid emphasis on integrated programming and community-based approach in Oromiya regional state. The Street Children programme is implemented with local partners in Addis Ababa and Hawassa.

ABOUT THE ROLE

GOAL Ethiopia is looking for a highly experienced individual for the position of Livelihoods Officer who will be Working at field level within the Rural Development Programme, the Livelihoods Officer will be responsible for directly implementing and monitoring Livelihoods Project activities, with support from Field office Programme Manager. The Livelihoods officer will work closely with grassroots staff including Community Development Workers and other technical Staffs. Additionally he/she will be expected to contribute inputs to the development of new projects, suggest ways for improvement on future projects designing and implementation based on his/her observations and experiences at field.

  • BS/ BA in Agriculture, Rural development, Animal science, or closely related discipline from a recognised university with 5 or more years’ work experience, preferably with an NGO experience.
  •  At least three years practical experience with an international development organisation, managing agricultural/livelihoods/pastoralist related program projects under complex operating environments
  • Sound conceptual understanding of development theories, local poverty dynamics, resilience, Market System Development, DRR, rural sustainable development, solid experience in working with and managing partnership, networking and capacity building processes.
  • Field based experience of programme implementation in agriculture, food security, market and VC, resilience, DRR and income generation.
  • Trained and experienced in the use and development of a wide range of PRA skills
  • Knowledge of local language (Oromiffa) is mandatory.
  • Good understanding of the local context of the area
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skill
  • Firm belief in teamwork, Gender equality, sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, participatory approach and sustainability
  • Proficiency in English and local language, both verbal and written

Desirable qualities, Skills and Competences:

  • Demonstrable ability to encourage and motivate staff and develop teamwork.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with local government, community organizations, and NGOs.
  • Flexible and creative approach, highly motivated and able to take the initiative and work unsupervised.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written, and knowledge of local language is mandatory.
  • Excellent report writing ability
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Flexible and creative approach highly motivated and able to take the initiative and work unsupervised.
  • Familiarity to GOAL geographical area of interventions and knowledge of local language (Oromifa).

REMUNERATION and BENEFITS

  • Salary Birr 10,876.37 per month
  • Transportation Allowance – 10% of monthly salary
  • Medical Allowance – Birr 6500/annum (will be added in your monthly salary)
  • Pension – as per the government pension scheme (11% from the employer and 7% from the employee).
  • Hardship Allowance – 30% of your monthly salary
