About the job

As Sankoré prepares to open its doors, the Marketing and Admissions Associate will play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s public presence and building a strong, values-aligned founding family community. From the first inquiry to enrollment and onboarding, you will guide families through a warm, thoughtful, and well-organized admissions journey while helping to tell Sankoré’s story to the wider community.

This is a dynamic, evolving role—starting with pre-opening marketing, outreach, and admissions systems, and growing into ongoing enrollment and family engagement support once the school is operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate school tours, open days, interviews, and admissions events.
  • Support implementation of the sliding-scale tuition and financial aid processes in alignment with school policies.

Marketing & School Visibility

  • Support the development and execution of marketing strategies to build awareness and interest ahead of the school opening.
  • Create and manage engaging digital content (social media, newsletters, website updates, photography/video support) that reflects Sankoré’s mission and values.
  • Assist with event marketing and community outreach initiatives.
  • Track and report on marketing and admissions performance metrics to inform strategy and growth.

Family Engagement & Communication

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with prospective and enrolled families, ensuring a welcoming and responsive experience.
  • Support parent communication systems, including newsletters, announcements, and onboarding materials.
  • Assist in managing the school’s Learning Management System (LMS) or parent portal for admissions and onboarding purposes.
  • Coordinate parent events and feedback channels to foster a vibrant, inclusive school community.

Systems & Pre-Opening Support

  • Help design and refine admissions, marketing, and family engagement systems suitable for a growing international school.
  • Maintain organized documentation, data, and workflows to support inspections, reporting, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, academic leadership, and external partners to ensure alignment across teams.

About You

You are a warm, proactive, and highly organized professional who believes that strong schools are built on strong relationships and clear systems. You are excited by the opportunity to help launch a new school and shape its culture from the ground up.

You bring:

  • Experience in admissions, marketing, or community engagement, ideally within a school or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage families from diverse backgrounds with empathy, professionalism, and care.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with an eye for detail and storytelling.
  • Organizational and systems-thinking strengths, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards.
  • Astute listening and observation, allowing you to understand family needs and communicate Sankoré’s value clearly and authentically.
  • Initiative and reliability, with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.

Kennedy Odede started Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) in 2004 with passion, 20 cents and a soccer ball. Growing up in Kibera, one of the largest slums in Africa, he experienced extreme poverty, violence, lack of opportunity, and deep gender inequality.

However, Kennedy also witnessed the palpable hope that persists in slums and recognized that people sought something different for themselves, their families and their communities. Visionaries like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela showed Kennedy that great, systemic change can come from within. Women like Kennedy’s mother inspired him to build the solutions to urban poverty through addressing one if its core obstacles—the prohibitive level of gender inequality. In 2007, Kennedy met Jessica Posner, a bright and driven American student studying abroad. Together they devised the model that SHOFCO utilizes today. SHOFCO’s innovation is to link girls’ education to deeply-needed community-wide services. This increases the value of girls and women, invites both genders to participate in the solution, and allows girls’ schools to be portals for large-scale social change.

Kennedy and Jessica’s partnership is a unique, pioneering collaboration in the field of international development. Bolstered by grassroots knowledge, they have dedicated their lives to bringing hope to urban communities.
