Job summary:
The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) Assistant will support the implementation of Kakenya’s Dream’s MEAL systems by assisting with data collection, entry, validation, and basic analysis to ensure accurate and timely information for decision-making and reporting. The role will help track progress across the organization’s four strategic pillars: Education Access, Health & Reproductive Rights, Employability & Entrepreneurship, and Climate Resilience while supporting documentation, learning activities, feedback mechanisms, and effective communication of program performance to internal and external stakeholders.
Location: Kakenya’s Dream field office located at Isampin, Transmara West, Narok County.
Reports to: MEAL Manager
Supervises: None
1. Monitoring & Program Tracking
- Support program teams (Education, Health and Reproductive Rights, and Community Programs) to ensure timely and accurate updates of indicator trackers.
- Assist in the collection, verification, and consolidation of program data against targets and logframes.
- Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, and delays, and support corrective actions.
- Track program performance across key areas (schools, scholarships, SRHR programs, community engagement, and clinic services).
- Support routine monitoring activities including surveys, spot checks, and field observations.
2. KPI Management & Data Quality Assurance
- Maintain KPI trackers and Indicator Performance Tracking Tables (IPTTs).
- Support Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) and data verification processes.
- Assist in developing and deploying data collection tools (digital and paper-based).
- Ensure proper documentation of indicators (PIRS – Performance Indicator Reference Sheets).
- Promote data quality standards and best practices across program teams.
3. Field Monitoring & Program Support
- Conduct regular field visits across program sites (schools, partner schools, communities, and KHWC).
- Support implementation monitoring for programs such as Jijue Training, Linda Dada, and Education Access.
- Verify reported data through spot checks and beneficiary engagement.
- Document field observations, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Provide feedback to program teams and the MEAL Manager to strengthen implementation.
4. Monitoring Health & Climate Initiatives
- Support tracking of health indicators, including SRHR outcomes and KHWC service delivery data.
- Assist in monitoring climate resilience and environmental education initiatives.
- Ensure integration of climate and health indicators into MEAL frameworks.
- Document emerging practices and lessons in health and climate programming.
5. Data Analysis, Reporting & Learning
- Support analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to generate actionable insights.
- Contribute to weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and donor use.
- Develop basic data visualizations (charts, dashboards) to support decision-making.
- Document success stories, case studies, and impact narratives.
- Support baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
- Contribute to learning forums, reflection sessions, and program reviews.
6. Accountability & Safeguarding Mechanisms
- Support implementation of feedback and complaints response mechanisms (CRM).
- Track and follow up on beneficiary feedback and complaints.
- Promote inclusion, participation, and transparency across programs
- Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical handling of sensitive data.
7. MEAL Systems & Capacity Strengthening
- Support training of staff on MEAL tools, systems, and data use.
- Assist in developing and refining MEAL frameworks, tools, and SOPs.
- Support digitization of data collection (e.g., ERP systems, mobile tools).
- Ensure proper data storage and documentation (physical and digital).
- Promote a culture of data use for decision-making across teams.
8. Additional Responsibilities
- Support proposal development (logframes, indicators, MEAL plans).
- Ensure integration of gender, inclusion, safeguarding, and youth-focused approaches in MEAL activities.
- Coordinate with program teams to embed MEAL in program design and implementation.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the MEAL Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in:
- Monitoring & Evaluation
- Statistics
- Social Sciences
- Development Studies
- Or a related field
- 2–3 years’ experience in MEAL, preferably in an NGO or community-based setting
- Experience with data collection tools (e.g., Kobo, ODK, or similar)
- Basic knowledge of data analysis and reporting
