The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the first professional associations in health as well as in other fields in Ethiopia. The Association was established on July 20, 1961 with 100 founding members and through a formal charter granted to it by the then Emperor Haile Selassie I. EMA has also been a member of the World Medical Association since 1994. Currently the Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is a national and non-profit organization, non-governmental legally registered professional association established to advance and maintain high standards of medical professional services.
Currently EMA is looking for Media & Communication Officer for the secretariat office.
Key summary of the position:
The Media and Communications officer is responsible for planning and directing public and media relations, communication of information programs to maintain favorable public and stakeholders’ perceptions of the organizations accomplishments and agenda. He/she will be a focal person to respond to requests for information from the media or arrange another appropriate designate or information source.
Major Duties
- Develops an effective communication strategy with internal and external stakeholders;
- Disseminates updated knowledge on health information message and research findings using media tools;
- Enhances and generates positive media profile of the Association and its members;
- Develops strong, consistent and effective media contact; creates and maintains media contact database;
- Prepares or edits publications for internal and external audience, including newsletters and report;
- Serves as a focal person to respond to requests for information from the media or arranges another appropriate designate or information source;
- Sets up sponsorship communication work process, develops strategies and provide technical support;
- Maintains and updates information on the Association website;
- Organizes continuing Medical Educations (CME) Annual Medical Conference (AMC) and other events of the association;
- Arranges public appearance, press release, contents or exhibits for clients to increase product and service awarded;
- Perform other related duties assigned by supervisor.

Academic Qualification
- Minimum B.A. degree in Journalism, Media Communication, Public Relations, English Language and/or related fields from a recognized University/College.
- Excellent written and oral knowledge of both Amharic and English languages
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years solid and demonstrable experience of developing, planning and coordinating effective communication materials in the Private, Public, NGO or Social Enterprise Sector (s).
Special Training
Other Requirements
- Communicating effectively both orally and writing as appropriate for the need of the audience.
- Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination technique and methods.
- Professionally in the use of computer software
- Knowledge of strategic communication
