Society for Family Health (SFH) is one of the leading non-governmental public health organisations in Nigeria, implementing programmes in Reproductive Health/Family Planning, HIV & AIDS prevention and treatment, malaria prevention and treatment, primary health care system strengthening and maternal, newborn and child health care. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist

Locations: Taraba and Kano
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Profile

  • He/She will be responsible for establishing and running a laboratory within the OSS and will be commitment to the KPs at risk or infected with HIV and to their continuity on ARV treatment, care, support, and prevention services.

Job Role
The successful candidate will perform the following functions:

  • Clinical services: Conducting all laboratory tests and related services at the OSS in line with good clinical laboratory practice
  • Documentation: Maintaining a robust Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and timely reporting of laboratory activities to USAID using the APPR Platform
  • Meetings: OSS weekly meetings, State weekly review meetings, Laboratory and Logistic Weekly review meeting, USAID weekly review meetings, and any other meeting as directed.
  • Programs: Surge Activities-Case finding, Refills, maintains laboratory Practice and Standards in clinical service delivery, Provide program supervisory functions to an assigned CCAPS
  • Report writing: weekly work plan, weekly program report, trip repor.

Qualifications / Experience

  • A Degree or Diploma in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science or in Microbiology with Applied Medical Parasitology and Bacteriology. Alternatively, person may have held a position as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Analyst,
  • 3-4 years relevant post-qualification work experience
  • Experience in sample collection and analysis (e.g. blood, stool, sputum)
  • Fluency in Hausa language in addition to English language and other local languages.
  • Experience in implementing a supply management system.
  • Knowledge of all basic laboratory techniques and quality control systems
  • Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Experience in working in a laboratory offering specific tests for ART treatment monitoring.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Excellent skills in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice.
  • Experience in sample referral and result tracking.
  • Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), presentation skills.
  • S/He must be attuned to and be comfortable with the culture/traditions of the people.
  • Candidates should be able to communicate proficiently in the dominant language of the region.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency using intermediate-level office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, spreadsheets, and database
  • Multitask and work with minimal supervision.

SFH will have developed a plan to spin off a subsidiary conducting logistics, research training, costs recovery products and specific interventions aimed at the for-profit sector including the oil and manufacturing sectors.
