Role Summary

The MHPSS Project Manager provides technical leadership, monitors and evaluates the execution of the MHPSS and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) activities conducted by field-based manager, supervisors and officers. He/she coordinates with sector advisor, other PMs, other stakeholders, and anticipating, planning, and contributing to report and proposal writing for integrated MHPSS and BCC components in the overall Leer programming.

Project Overview

Medair’s goal in Leer County is to reduce morbidity and mortality in vulnerable populations through the provision of emergency health, nutrition and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) services, and to improve the mental and psychosocial wellbeing of the affected populations.

Workplace & Conditions

Leer, South Sudan. This is a field-based position, and this role will be accommodated within Medair compound in Leer county, with basic living amenities

Responsibilities:

Project Management

• Manage and lead the Leer MHPSS project to achieve objectives within budget and timelines, ensuring effective monitoring, reporting, and integration of beneficiary participation, while developing strategies for sustainable impacts and responsible exit.

Staff management

• Line-manage and support PSS Officers through day-to-day management, training, and performance appraisals, while facilitating regular meetings to promote information sharing and feedback on project objectives.

• Provide coaching and technical supervision to enhance staff ownership of MHPSS and protection activities, while assessing training needs and ensuring appropriate training is delivered.

Financial Management

• Manage the MHPSS budgets for the assigned project(s) and ensure all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards about financial management, including accountability and good governance

Communication and coordination

• Develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication structures with the Leer MHPSS team, Medair in-country and GSO advisors and other relevant stakeholders, with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships

• Participate in the appropriate sub-national cluster coordination meetings

Qualifications & Technical Competencies:

• Degree in Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Social Work, Public Health or Global Mental Health

• Good English (spoken and written)

• At least 1-year management experience

• At least 1 years’ experience managing mental health/ psychosocial/ protection projects in developing countries

• Ability and willingness to manage project implementation

Behavioural Competencies:

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills foster cooperation among stakeholders and ability to work as part of a team

• Ability to demonstrating flexibility in response to changing environments and maintaining effectiveness under pressure

• Creative, learning mindset, adaptable, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues)

• Resilient, able to manage personal stress levels)

• Problem solver, able to prioritise and delegate well)

• Good negotiation skills
