TITLE: Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support Facilitator (MHPSS Facilitator)

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Cairo Field Office/Operation Unit

LOCATION: Greater Cairo area, Egypt

GRADE: 6

CONTRACT LENGTH: Fixed Term,One year

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: This role is required to design and facilitate activities, events, trainings with psychologists and MHPSS officer. Activities are developed to enhance the Psycho-social support, mental well-being and empowerment of the Unaccompanied and Separated children. The facilitators will also work with host community to develop networks and partnerships enhancing social understanding to UASC.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: MHPSS Officer

Staff reporting to this post: None

Travel: It is expected from this position to travel frequently between SCI different hubs located in Maadi, Ard El-Lewa and Nasr City.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Project Implementation:

  • Participate in the development of monthly field plans of the MHPSS activities of for unaccompanied and separated children and youth refugees and migrants.
  • Conduct assessments upon need;
  • Develop activities to enhance the PSS wellbeing of unaccompanied and separated children – refugees, asylum seekers and migrants
  • Assist youth/adolescents to initiate and lead initiatives to enhance social cohesion and understanding to refugees, asylum seekers, migrants – specifically unaccompanied / separated minors.
  • Participate in training/facilitation delivery for the MHPSS activities.
  • Observe the changes in children behavior over the sessions and document positive and negative changes demonstrated by the participants.
  • Ensure that the activities are implemented in a full respect to the child safeguarding polices of SC
  • Facilitate, when necessary, orientation sessions, workshops, follow up visits and other activities for the project.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate different psychosocial support sessions and awareness sessions with children like the child resilience program.
  • Plan and Lead awareness sessions
  • Plan and Evaluate PSS activities with the MHPSS Officer
  • Work on manuals and assist interpreters to develop the proper non-Arabic versions
  • Work closely with psychologists to develop needed activities for group activities, PSS groups.
  • Work closely with Child Protection – Case Management team to plan activities to increase protection and integration of UASC in their local communities
  • Ensure Child Safeguarding standards are understood and met in liaison with the Child Safeguarding focal point.
  • Ensure that project activities are implemented in line with Save the Children’s policies and procedures, and adhering to donor requirements and guidelines;
  • Regular reporting to the MHPSS Officer
  • Participate in planning, budgeting, M&E meetings and events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology or Similar fields;
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in development/humanitarian aid; previous experience in capacity building, activities’ facilitation, trainings and psychosocial support;
  • Previous experience working with children is required

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication skills, writing and organizational skills;
  • Experience with refugee communities – community leaders, caregivers, local partners
  • Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) is required; and good English skills is desirable
  • Experience with refugee/marginalized communities;
  • Commitment to SCI’s values and policy;
  • Familiar with the refugee context in Egypt and associated political/cultural sensitivities Previous experience with unaccompanied children and youth refugees and migrants.
