SouthSouthNorth (SSN) supports national and regional responses to climate change through policy and knowledge interventions, partnerships and deep collaboration. We do this by connecting people and information, enhancing capability and mobilising resources to respond innovatively to the challenges and opportunities that climate change presents.

SouthSouthNorth seeks to appoint two mid-level Project Managers to support the delivery of the Climate and Development Knowledge Networks (CDKN) and the Southern Africa Climate Partnership (SACFP) Programmes, to be based in Cape Town.

About CDKN

Established in 2010, the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) has helped developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to achieve climate compatible development goals, providing knowledge, technical assistance, and research services. SouthSouthNorth managed the Africa programme of CDKN, and from March 2018 to March 2021 will be managing another project in the CDKN portfolio: the three year Knowledge Accelerator project. The overall goal of the CDKN Knowledge Accelerator is to create an enabling environment for implementing and scaling climate and development actions in order to drive inclusive, sustainable an d climate resilient development, and enhance the quality of life for the poorest and most vulnerable to climate change.

About SACFP

The Southern Africa Climate Finance Partnership (SACFP) involves the development of a regional partnership programme to improve country-owned climate finance portfolios. These portfolios should be able to access the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and other climate finance avenues, and mobilise private investment where possible. The SACFP aims to provide technical assistance, stakeholder coordination, and research to be undertaken in support of select National Designated Authorities and Focal Points.

Project Management

  • Oversee the delivery of the project by suppliers and internal team members
  • Organise and plan logistics for workshops, team travel and meetings
  • Provide general support to workshops / meetings, such as sending out documentation, workshop note-taking and collation of input/feedback
  • Coordinate planning with the SSN Events Coordinator for the Regional Learning Forum
  • Maintain and update the project Gantt chart
  • Document project risks and update project risk register
  • Ensure the adoption of appropriate quality assurance strategies for deliverables
  • Coordinate procurement procedures
  • Submit expense claims via SSN’s online expense logging forms
  • Track finances and assisting with forecasting
  • Contribute the preparation of quarterly narrative and financial reports
  • Document and collating monitoring, reporting and evaluation data according to the project’s Monitoring and Evaluation Plan
  • Contribute to an effective and up-to-date filing electronic system for all project-related documentation

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (preferably Masters) related to climate change and development (e.g. Environment, Public policy)
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in project management
  • Experience in working and engaging with African stakeholders, especially government
  • A keen interest and knowledge of climate change and development issues
  • Verbal and written skills in English
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Available to travel within Africa and internationally if required
  • Attention to detail, and planning, administration and organisational skills Desirable
  • Experience managing international donor funded projects
  • Professional experience in climate change, environment and/or international development
  • An understanding of the global and regional climate and development landscape and the key actors involved
