To support our medical projects in Chad and the Central African Republic, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is currently looking to recruit a MEAL coordinator to design and implement Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning plans in multiple locations.

About the role

  • Your responsibilities are to further implement and evolve MEAL plans in both countries and ensure the development and alignment with the Logical Frameworks already in place.
  • By working closely with project coordinators and medical team leaders, you will ensure relevant data collection to support both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of our medical interventions.
  • You will be visiting different sites to monitor the quality of service to our beneficiaries and the communities we serve.
  • You will play a key role in supporting the medical coordination team and epidemiologists in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, and conduct analysis.
  • By identifying gaps in available skills and capacities amongst our workforce, you will assess the need for training and conduct the relevant follow-up.

Your profile

  • You have a master’s degree and 5 years’ experience in public health, social science / economics/ epidemiology, statistics or tropical diseases related fields , or a relevant bachelor’s degree with 5+ years in the humanitarian-medical sector.
  • Experience and knowledge in designing and setting up MEAL programs within a medical setting, from project initiation to its closing stages.
  • Experience in developing and refining data collection tools. Demonstrated skills in medical data management, analysis and visualization.
  • Experience with humanitarian medical organizations in settings similar to where MSF works is highly desirable.
  • A professional level in both French and English is required, whereas Arabic is considered an asset.
  • Experience in assessing training needs and developing training resources.
  • Knowledge of DHIS2 and MSF’s project cycles is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with broader accountability best practices in the humanitarian (medical) sector.
  • Excellent and advanced skills in the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

Conditions

• Full-time position for a contract duration of 6 to 12 months.

• We offer 25 days of paid vacation per year.

• All logistical aspects of your assignment are organized and paid for by MSF, including travel, visa applications and accommodation (including food and cleaning).

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
