GHANA COUNTRY CONTEXT

World Vision is a global leader in improving and transforming the lives of children, their families, and their communities. In1979, it expanded its operations to Ghana, a country situated in West Africa, and registered under the name, World Vision Ghana. Ghana has a diverse multiethnic population of over 31 million people, with a majority of the population being of Christian faith. The country also performs relatively well in metrics of healthcare, economic growth, and human development. World Vision Ghana’s head office is based in the capital city, Accra with two additional regional field offices, one based in Accra and the other in Tamale an area in the Northern part of Ghana. The portfolio of programs serves over 40,000 registered children within the various communities; the office operates in 18 Area Programmes and Grant project in 14 out of the 16 regions in Ghana. This is governed by a Board of Directors, whilst its operations are managed by a Senior Leadership team. The office has a staff strength of about 250 employees who are currently supporting the organisation to implement its FY26-30 Operations Strategy aimed at empowering 2.5 million most vulnerable children directly and indirectly with Health and Nutrition, Education and skills development, Water Sanitation and Hygiene as well as food security and livelihood interventions

As National Director (ND), you will strategically lead, develop, and direct the implementation of World Vision Ghana Strategy, in alignment with the Government of Ghana priorities and Our Promise. In performing this role, you will be an effective leader locally, an effective member of the broader WVI Partnership, and will model the organization’s principles of Twin Citizenship to ensure high ministry quality and overall organizational effectiveness. You will contribute to partnership life and unity by acting as both a local and global representative of the organization. You will ensure the country’s operations and operating models maintain the Partnership’s focus on Child Well Being outcomes and aspirations as they apply in the Ghanaian specific country context, maximizing the impact in the field while maintaining efficiency as wise stewards of entrusted resources.

You will lead national resource development, local fundraising, and growth of local resources through effective partnerships with Government of Ghana, the private sector, individual Ghanaians, the Church, and members of WV Ghana. You will also ensure the office collaborates effectively with the WV Ghana Board, other partnership offices, and divisions to achieve local and organizational goals.

You will continue to position WV Ghana as a learning centre in the Partnership on localization, while continuing to grow locally restricted funding, including effectively managing locally acquired awards to donor expectations, as well as effectively managing relations with donors locally.

Externally, you will foster collaboration with major donors, project partners, local government, church representatives, faith-based organizations, and non-governmental organizations. In doing so, you will maximize stewardship, effectiveness, and efficiency of costs and operating models.

You will model a high standard of personal Christian leadership, ministry, and integrity; lead by example; and provide spiritual guidance to staff on the WV Vision, Mission, and Core Values.

Requirements include:

• Master’s degree in development studies, international development, management, administration or social sciences or equivalent
• At least 12-15 years’ experience in managing effective and efficient operations of a country office or organization, demonstrating sound, people, program, financial management skills and knowledge. (e.g. organizations with over 200 staff and an annual total budget of over $ 20 million)
• At least 10 years’ experience overseeing and/ or managing a large government grant, its acquisition and donor engagement.
• Proven track record of leading multi-cultural teams in complex, culturally and politically-sensitive contexts and/or multi-sectoral emergency response projects.
• Negotiates with purpose and integrity and effectively handles multiple demands from many stakeholders
• Provides a clear and compelling strategic direction for the organization
• Experience in fund raising in general and generating local revenue in particular, Advocacy and public relations and overseeing large Government grant; its acquisition and donor engagement
• Experience in Development and/ Emergency and domestic/ international relief as one of major Ministries (Relief, Development, Advocacy), close familiarity with other two;
• Is politically astute and shows strong responsible negotiations skills (especially in dealing with politically sensitive government, donors, staff and internal politics)
• Understanding of country political and socio-economic and cultural context achieved within 3 months after assuming the role
• Strong information, communication and technology skills and knowledge –ability to use diverse Microsoft applications and management information systems.

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

• Domestic Travel: 30% Regular internal travel to project areas is required.
• International Travel: 15% international travel will be required
• Office based however some level of travel is expected within the Ghana and to other places. Some travel may be in remote location with minimal facilities
