Context:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, and in close collaboration with the Heads of Unit in Country Office Senegal and the Regional Media and Communication and Awareness Raising teams at the Regional Office in Dakar, the successful candidate will lead the Country Office communications team. He/she will be responsible the implementation of IOM Senegal’s public information, communication and awareness raising activities. This includes the implementation of the projects in Senegal under the Awareness Raising portfolio of the Regional Office for West and Central Africa to promote IOM’s efforts in the region and raise awareness of migration issues nationally, regionally and internationally. The position will be based in the Country Office team in Dakar, Senegal.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in the design, implement and update Senegal country office communication and awareness raising strategy.
  2. Ensure the coordination of all IOM Senegal communication and awareness raising activities.
  3. Produce, collect and disseminate public information in a timely manner, in coordination with the IOM Regional Office for West and Central Africa, internally and externally, including media, donors, United Nations agencies, government counterparts and other stakeholders.
  4. Develop and strengthen the office’s links with local, regional and international media through regular updates, answering media requests in a timely manner, and organizing media trainings.
  5. Draft key messages, statements, talking points and other relevant background documents upon request.
  6. Coordinate and participate in inter-agency media and communication working groups to encourage information flow across agencies and to develop complementary media strategies.
  7. Participate in key events and workshops and undertake field duty travels as needed to collect and produce multimedia content, including photographs.
  8. Liaise with Program/Project Managers on a regular basis to assist with the production of up-to-date communication products, infographics and reports.
  9. Participate in the design and implement awareness raising campaigns to promote IOM’s efforts in Senegal, in coordination with relevant offices.
  10. Conceptualize, plan and organize activities to promote the office’s mission.
  11. Ensure that gender and particular vulnerabilities are considered in all IOM communications.
  12. Ensure capacity building of the team.
  13. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

Required qualifications and experiences

Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in Communications, journalism or any related field from an accredited academic institution and 2 years of pertinent working experience, or

• Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with 4 years of relevant professional experience.

• Experience with an international organization in the relief and development field

• Experience in community-based and/or small-grants programming desirable, particularly in the areas of livelihoods, health, education or civil-society strengthening;

• Experience with delivering to tight timetables and motivating internal and external stakeholders and

Languages

• Fluency in French and working knowledge of English are required.
